Rigby

Rigby joined us in September 2000. I wanted a playmate for Poodie, someone to keep him company when I was gone during the work week. Rigby's owner was moving and couldn't take him or his brother. She'd found a home for his brother and I found Ribgy. He was big even then: 9 pounds at 4 months old. He's at least half Maine Coon from the looks (and size!) of him. He's very playful. He usurps play. You can be playing three rooms away when he's asleep and he'll know it. Which is why Poodie's mellowed. They do wrestle sometimes. Rigby may be younger, but size-wise they're a good match-up. I'm hoped many of Poodie's good habits will wear off on the new kid. Oh well. I wanted a bigger picture, but he wouldn't sit still for the camera.

Rigby loves water. He also loves to curl up in the bathroom sink, as you can see.

He is the quirkiest cat I've ever known. He eats tissue paper and plastic bags, if I'm not careful with them. And it seems he'd rather play with his food than eat it. So, though he's quite large, he, in fact, weighs only 10-11 pounds.

As big as he is, he just had to prove that he could fit into a shoebox! He is the most flexible cat I've ever known as well!

Sadly, he had to be adopted out after I got married. The stress of that transition just built up and after Thumbellina was put on the same special food and thus fed in the same room with him, he tried to kill her. Really kill her. It was vicious and full of a malice I'd never seen in him. We tried for nearly a year to retrain him, to calm him, etc, but the day we were going to take him to the shelter, we woke up to him try to kill her under our bed. We were married in March. He was taken to a no-kill shelter we still work with (Friends of Parkville Animal Shelter) in February of the next year and adopted a couple months later. I've since learned that he's happy in his new family and has moved to Colorado and then Texas.

Lina is my next cat. Actually, her name is much more complicated than that.
