At the time, I had three cats up stairs and a pregnant foster mamacat downstairs. I was pretty resistant to "free to good home" signs except that I stopped and read this one and found out that this little kitten had extra toes! I'd always wanted a cat with extra toes....
Thus Belle came to live with us. Belle is short for Thumbellina, and I think you can see why I named her that! She actually has 7 toes on her right front paw, 6 on her left front paw, and 5 on both her back paws. (Cats usually only have four toes on their back paws.)
Belle was born to a feral mother, so she was taken away and fostered by humans at 1 week old. She is very sweet and well-behaved for the most part. She grew up in a house with four adult cats, so she's also very playful and knows all her "cat" stuff.
Belle is six years old now and though she does have PTSD because Rigby tried to kill her, she is a sweetheart and a very lovey cat. She likes to play and she's definitely a water-diva. (Fountains are best, otherwise, she must have fresh water!) She is a bit fragile but we love her dearly.
Update: Thumbellina passed away in May 2017. She'd just turned 13 in April. We found her in our bedroom after church. I described the scene to the vet and this is our theory: Something in her brain scared her in the utility room. She peed because she was scare, then went to hide under our bed. She would hide under the head of our bed, but we found her at the foot, with several things splayed out around her. We kept those things under our bed for security for reasons I won't go into. They were quite heavy. So we think she had a violent seizure that pushed those things out from under the bed and then died. Our daughter had heard a rucus in there and thought a cat was in trouble but our door was locked (we have a cat door cut into it) so she couldn't go in. We miss her a lot.
