Season 5

Apoclypse Rising: Sisko calls a staff meeting at 1600 hours, and Bashir is there with the rest of the senior staff. Sisko discusses a secret mission to prove Chancellor Gowron is a changeling. Kira asks how they're going to prove it. Odo says they can't just asks him to submit to a blood screening. Bashir comments that Klingons are excessive baobut blood screenings so if the changing has lasted taht long, he must have found a way around them. Later, Bashir gives Sisko, O'Brien, and Odo a facelift, by making them up to be Klingons. After they're gone, Bashir brings the report of the crew's physicals to Kira. Kira asks if there's anything interesting and he tells her that Vilix Pran is budding again. She asks how many that will make. Bashir says he had two the last time, four before that, could be between eight and eighteen this time. Kira bemoans the one she's caring. Bashir says she's doing great, even glowing. But, he says, he supposes his opinion doesn't count. She says it counts, because it's still her fault. He's incredulous. She says he performed the transfer. He says after she volunteered. She says after he put the idea in her head. He says after she ran into an asteroid field. She says after he insisted she check on anomyous bioscans. He says that was Keiko! Kira says he's right but she'd rather blame him. He says, "Whatever makes you happy. I never argue with my patients...or my commanding officer." The smile and calm down and he asks if she thinks he'll make it. She says they will, but will he be able to give them their old facees back. He blows out a breath and the scene changes. Later, Bashir approaches Jake who's watching the Promenade from the upper level. He asks Jake how the view is. Jake tells him how the people move slowly when they're comfortable but then days like to day, everyone hurries. They can feel the Klingons coming. Bashir says he'll have to try to walk slower. Show no fear, is his motto. He's called away to the Infirmary because the Armstrong and the Drake were ambushed and took heavy casualties. Before he leaves he tells Jake his father will be alright. Jake says he sometimes wishes his father wasn't so good at his job. Bashir tells him he goes where he's sent and it comes with the uniform. He doesn't think it is ever going to change. After the team returns, Bashir gives Sisko back his face and asks if it's better. Sisko says he kind of misses the fangs. Odo's next. Bashir offers to give him any face he'd like, Bajoran, Human, Trill.... Odod says his old face will do nicely and Bashir says, "Whatever you say." and leads him to the back.

The Ship: Bashir and Quark go to Ops with Odo making sure they. Bashir says they'll let Kira be the judge of it. Quark says if he's going to prosecute him, he has to prosecute his co-conspirator. Bashir says he's noa conspirator. Odo asks what he would call himself and Bashir answers, "An idiot." Quark says he can go along with that. Bashir adds, "For asking for your help in the first place. They get to the office and Kira asks what's going on. Odo tells her that Quark imported a Regelian flea spiders without a permit. Quark says Bashir asked for them. Bashir explains the spiders were for her, as he could synthesize a drug from the venom to help her circulation, but he didn't know he needed a permit. Kira says, "So what's the problem. Fill out the paperwork." Odo explains it's more complicated as Quark also imported illegal liquid crystals along with the spiders. Kira says she doesn't have time for this as she's got to take the Defiant out. Bashir asks when they'll leave, but she's says she'll be leaving and he has some legal problems to work out.

Looking for Par'Mach in all the Wrong Places: Bashir is walking down a cooridor when he hears arguing. He leans against the door. Quark catches him and he pretends he stretchign out a kink in his neck. It's the O'Briens' door. Quark says he hopes Molly isn't around. Bashir asks if he can hear what they're saying in there. Quark asks how he could not. Bashir asks what they're saying. Quark waves him a bit, saying to use a little discretion. He goes on to say the general idea of what they're saying then says, but to hear them, it's a matter of life or death. Keiko then says, "Hello, Julian." Quark had seen her coming. Julian had not and he stutters a "Hello." After she goes in to her quarters, Bashir turns on Quark, saying he thought he said the O'Briens were arguing. Quark says it's not Miles and Keiko. It's the other O'Briens: Miles and Kira. Bashir asks what they have to argue about it. Quark begins to repeat their argument, but it stops. He says Keiko stopped it. Bashir says, "Oh well...I mean, good!" Later, O'Brien is in the Infirmary with Bashir, who holds up something and says, "This should alleviate Kira's sneezing." O'Brien questions the "should." Bashir tells him that Bajoran women have been sneezing through pregnancies for over a thousand years and O'Brien can't expect him to cure if overnight. Bashir walks away and tells O'Brien he's heard a rumor that the Jerries are going to try to cross the Channel and maybe they should have a surprise waiting for them. But O'Brien had picked up the device and it makes him sneeze. Bashir says it serves him right. O'Brien says he can't go to the holosuite tonight because he and Kira have some things to work out. Bashir asks if they're still fighting. O'Brien asks who says they're fighting. Bashir tells him word gets around; it's a small station. O'Brien counters with, "It's a huge station." But Bashir tells him it's obviously not huge enough. He prepaers some herbs for Kira's swollen ankles. He tells O'Brien she'll need to desolve them in fruit juice before injesting them. O'Brien says he hopes it tastes better than the other herbs he gave her before. Bashir asks if he's sampling all her medications. O'Brien says no, that Kira didn't like the taste of it. Then he adds that she's had a rash on the back of her thighs and asks if Bashir has a salve or something. Bashir, eyebrows raised, asks how long she's had it. O'Brien answers that he noticed it yesterday when he was helping her out of the tub, so at least a day. Bashir exclaims, "Helping her out of the tub?" O'Brien defends himself saying she's living in his house and having his baby. Bashir asks if he had a look. O'Brien says, "What? Oh Please! I was holding a towel up in front of her." Bashir laughs and asks how Keiko feels about this. O'Brien responds that Keiko is fine with it. They're adults and they have developed a close, mature relationship. Bashir says he's sure Keiko and Kira have. "But you...." O'Brien asks what about him. Bashir gives him a sly look. "I'll bet you looked." O'Brien takes the medicine and walks out, leaving Bashir chuckling as he goes back to work. Later, Kira wants to spend a couple of days relaxing on Bajor. Keiko is worried that she'll go into labor, but Kira says Julian doesn't think that will be for another month. Later, Bashir recites the injuries Quark has sustained on his, um, date, with Grilka. He asks what Quark has been doing but then decides he doesn't need that image running around in his head. He says he'll just treat him, but then the door opens and Dax and Warf enter, also injured. He asks them what they've been up to, and they both hem and haw a bit, until he decides he doesn't need that image either. He says he'll stop asking that question altogether. People can just come in and he'll treat them and that's all. He tells them to have a seat and he'll be with them in a minute.

Nor the Battle to the Strong: Bashir tells Jake he was surprised the panel was so uncivilized. Jake thinks the panel was very civilized. Bashir says it was heresy to suggest--and then goes into the medical equivalent of technobabble. Jake agrees with me as his voiceover is about not being able to write this article because he doesn't understand anything. He wishes for a story with good and evil, like the good doctor fighting off a plague. Then thinks, Look at me, I'm rooting for a plague. They're both interupted by a distress signal. Bashir checks it and finds it's a distress call from the Federation colony on Adjilon Prime. They are under attack and Klingons have landed troops. The main hospital has been attacked and they are running low on doctors and supplies. Jake wants to go, but Bashir says it's too risky as the hospital is only 50 km from the front line. Jake argues that he's out himself into dangerous situations all the time. Bashir says that may be but it's not the same as putting Jake into one. Jake says not to worry about him, but he tells Jake he's too young to die. Jake says he's 18 and then realizes how that sounds. He says he's a Sisko and has been on the station plenty of times when it was attacked. He says there are lives at stake and these people need him. Bashir says he hopes he doesn't recognize this and sets the course. He says they'll be there in under an hour. He says he can only imagine what Jake's father will say. He says he'll get Jake out as soon as reinforecments arrive, besides he doesn't want him to miss the deadline on his story and asks if they'll want a picture of him. Then he goes back to technobabble. Back on the station, Sisko says he's just talked to Doctor Bashir, who's on his way to Adjilon Prime to answer a request for medical assistance. Kira realizes, out loud, that Jake is with him. Sisko gives them a summary of the situation on the planet. Sisko says Bashir said he and Jake will leave as soon as the relief teams are in place. Dax says that they'll be home by Thursday. Bashir and Jake approach Adjilon Prime. Jake asks if he's ready to beam down. Bashir says they can't leave the runabout in orbit with the Klingons around. Besides, he says, the colonists have moved the medical equipment underground and they can't beam through the magnicite in the rock. He finds as clearing a kilometer away from the main settlement to set the runabout down. He tells Jake things could get rough down there as they've got a lot ofwounded. They get to the facility underground and the doctor there asks if he's Bashir. He says they received a distress call. She says the Resource said he was coming. She takes him by the arm and leads him to a patient. She tells him to jump in, standard triage. Jake asks him what he should do and Bashir tells him to keep out of the way, please. He works on the patient. A man comes in asking for help and Bashir goes to him and helps him to a bed. He examines the man's foot and tells the man it doesn't look that bad. Bashir takes off his boot and then says in surprise that it's a phaser burn. The man asks what he's talking about and Bashir tells him to sit tight and they'll get to him when they can. He walks away. Later, Bashir, now dressed in scrubs, tells the head doctor that he'd like to try a surgical procedures. She says he can and that there's an extra surgical table in the back. Jake and a medic carry patients and bodies until they return and find all the patients gone and Doctor Bashir and two others slumped together against a wall. Bashir says, "Since you two aren't busy, would you mind carrying me to the nearest replicator so I can get something to eat." On the station, Odo tells Sisko that he's sure Dr. Bashir is looking after him. Back on Adjilon, Bashir brings some food to Jake who thanks him. Bashir asks how he's holding up. Jake says okay. Bashir tells him he handled hisself well and he was impressed. Jake says he's starved. Then Bashir looks to his food, saying "I think I'll start by making a lateral incision across the thigh joint." He notices Jake about to vomit at that and runs him outside. They come back in and Bashir asks Julian how he feels. Jake says the fresh air did him good, then asks if he remembers the ensign who shot himself. Bashir asks how he could forget. Jake asks what will happen to him. Bashir says he'll probably be courtmartialed. Jake says the ensign said some of the people in his unit ran, and Bashir says it happens. Jake argues that they're Starfleet. They've passed psych tests and gone through hundreds of battle simulations. Bashir tells him simulations can't prepare you for the real thing. Nothing can. Jake says some people say you don't know what you're made of until you've been in battle. Bashir tells him there are many situations in life that test a man's character and, thankfully, most of them don't involve death and distruction. They enter the mess again and the medic tells him the head doctor is looking for him, something about the aortal graft he did. He goes to see her and the patient. He asks how the patient is. She says he's holding and bloodflow is almost 100%. She says he did a good job. Bashir says she has a good team. His OR nurse was as sharp as they come. She asks if things are any better for them. Bashir tells her the fleet is regrouping for a counterattack. She asks if he has any idea what ships are involved as they don't get much news there with the Klingons jamming the subspace channels. Bashir says he thinks the Rutledge and the Tecumseh are heading things up. She says her husband is the sciece officer on the Tecumseh. He says Captain Raymond is one of the best there is. He saw the Tecumseh through the Cardassian wars and he doesn't think he's planning on losing her now. She agrees and then is called away. He says they're keeping her busy. She says it keeps her mind off things and he smiles. In the mess, the medic, Kirby, asks Jake how he ended up there. Jake said he's writing an article on Dr. Bashir. That night, an explosion rocks the facility. Everyone runs to the patients. Bashir is working with a woman. He says she's fibrolating. He gives her a shock while the others talk about a portable generator. He suddenly realizes he has one on the runabout. He says it's about a kilometer south of the facility and he'll need some help to carry it. Kirby shows them the east tunnel they'll need to use as they can't beam out because the Klingons are using transport scramblers. He and Jake walk out into the daylight. He points out where they sat down, just over the ridge. Then blasts to off around them. Bashir tells Jake to get down. He tells him to stay close and keep his head low. He runs over to a rock and says whatever happens, one of them has to get that generator. He keeps running, hollering for Jake to come on. Then a blast knocks him to his feet. He gets back up but the shells keep coming. He hollars for Jake and then goes down and doesn't get back up. Jake runs off. Jake finds a wounded man. He goes on about maybe he ran for a reason. The man catches the "ran" and Jake says the shelling started and he couldn't see Dr. Bashir.... The asks if he left the doctor. Jake says it was a mistake. After he dies, Jake runs again and ends up back at the facility. Kirby sees him and is happily surprised. He says they thought he was.... Jake says he's okay. Jake says he got knocked out and asks if Dr. Bashir made it back alright. Kirby says he's in ICU for the night with plasma burns on his arm and shoulder. He doesn't know how Bashir did it, but he carried the generator back by himself. He says they went looking for them and found a crater where the runabout was. Kirby asks if Jake wants to see him. Jake says he should rest. Kirby says he is awake; he was just in there with him. He says Bashir will be glad to know he's okay. Jake reluctantly goes to Bashir. Bashir is lying down, staring at the ceiling. He's very relieved to see Jake. He says, "Thank God! I thought you'd been killed. Once the shelling had stopped and I couldn't find you, I assumed the worst." He says he's so sorry and Jake says it's alright. But Bashir says it isn't. He shouldn't have brought him in the first place, and now with the Klingons massing to attack..."What was I thinking?!" Jake yells at him to forget it. What's done is done. Jake's voiceover says he couldn't stand him apologizing, not after what Jake had done to him. Kirby comes to tell him that visiting hours are over and begins to examine Jake's bloody cheek. A bit later, alone, Jake writes that he keeps trying to make sense of it, the shelling, losing sight of Bashir, running. He comes to the conclusion that he's a coward. Part of him wishes Bashir had seen him run and told everyone the truth so they could know they can't count on him. Bashir, now recovered, walks into the mess as Jake's getting upset at everyone talking about how they want to die. He rants on about how no one will remember what they've done here. Bashir yells his name to get his attention and says, "Let's take a walk." They go to another room. Bashir says, "I know you're scared." Jake says it's not that. Bashir wants to know what it is. Jake says he didn't think what they were saying was funny. Bashir says that's not what set him off. Something is eating at him and he can see it. He says that ever since he came back he's been walking around looking miserable. Jake tells him to leave him alone. Bashir tries again but Jake repeats it. Bashir says "Alright, if that's what you want. But if you want to talk, you know where to find me." He walks away. Later, the compound gets hit. The head doctor tells everyone, including Bashir, that they are evacuating. Bashir says they have to keep calm and focus on their jobs. The people out there need them. The head doctor agrees and they get to work. In the confusion, Kirby complains to Bashir who hands him a heavy container, that there's only two guards. Bashir says the others are out defending the perimeter. He's gone when the Klingons come in and Jake, hiding under a gurney, fires randomly with a phaser and brings the ceiling down on the Klingons. Later, Bashir wakes him up, telling him to look who's there. It's Captain Sisko. Sisko tells Jake not to move and to let Dr. Bashir check him for injuries. Bashir scans him with a tricorder. Jake asks what happened, and Bashir says he came back for him when he realized he wasn't on the hopper. Sisko says the cease-fire is reinstated. Bashir says their timing could have been better. He tells Sisko that Jake seems to be alright. Sisko tells Jake that sealing the entranceway was a risky move. Bashir says they never would have gotten the patients out alive if he hadn't done it. He tells Jake he's a hero. In the PADD Bashir and Sisko are reading (in separate locations), Jake says he wanted to believe him more than anything, but he admits he was just as scared in the hospital as he when he ran away when they were going for the generator.

Trials and Tribble-ations: Sisko tells Agents Dulmer and Lucsly of Temperal Investigations about a recent trip in time where they met up with Kirk's Enterprise two weeks before: Worf escorts a passenger to the mess on Defiant. The man exclaims, "Humans!" and Bashir, sitting with O'Brien, looks up. Worf introduces him as Mr. Wattle, but the man says to call him Barry and shakes Bashir's and O'Brien's hands. The man says, among other things, that Klingons are foul-smelling barbarians. O'Brien tells Worf not to take it personally, and Bashir says he rather likes how Worf smells. O'Brien describes it sort of earthy, peaty, and Bashir adds, "With a touch of lilac." Worf briefs the senior staff in the mess, about who the passenger really is, Klingon altered to look like a human. Bashir asks if he's saying he's a spy. They deduce his motives and Bashir asks what he is planning to do: contact his younger self and warn himself about Kirk. Dax says he could be planning to kill Kirk. Sisko says they have to find him before he changes history. They'll have to search without raising suspicion or altering the timeline. Bashir says they'll ought to find a way to blend in. The away team dresses and Bashir checks his tricorder. He steps out of his quarters just as Sisko is walking by. Sisko corrects him that he's a lieutenant. O'Brien steps out and Bashir asks if they aren't wearting the wrong colors. O'Brien asks him if he doesn't know anything about this period in time. Bashir says, "I'm a doctor, not an historian." Sisko explains that in the old days, Operations officers wore red, Command wore gold. And they all look up as Dax enters saying, "And women wore less." Bashir says he thinks he's going to like history. The away team meets in the transporter room where Dax and O'Brien explains how and where they'll transport. Dax says O'Brien and Julian should start on deck 21 of Enterprise and work their way forward. Sisko tells them to remember to try and avoid contact with people of this time period. Bashir and O'Brien transport and Bashir looks around and then checks his tricorder. He asks O'Brien if he's ready. They are in a turbolift and O'Brien calls out the deck. When it doesn't work, he asks what's wrong, but Bashir says he doesn't know anything about this time period. O'Brien tells him to take a panel off the wall and Bashir starts to but then a woman enters and grabs a handhold before calling out her deck. They follow suit and Bashir says he won't tell anyone if O'Brien won't. Later, Bashir scans while O'Brien works in a panel, or doesn't work. Bashir tells him he's supposed to be working. O'Brien tells him he's afraid to touch anything. It's all cross-circuited and patched together. Bashir says it sounds like on of his repair jobs. He says there's no sign of Darvin, the man they're looking for, in this section and he'll have to widen the scan radius, if he can figure out how. O'Brien reminds him not to let the scan field get above 20 miliwatts. Bashir tells him thanks but he was listening in the mission briefing. Then another engineer arrives, asking what they're doing there as Soctty told him to do that. Bashir says there must have been some mix-up. Then he asks if that's a medical tricorder that Bashir has. Bashir says yes. The engineer asks why they need a doctor to repair a power relay. Bashir says that obviously, you don't. He's doing a study of work-related stress. He tells them to pretend he's not there and he scans O'Brien. O'Brien knocks out all the power on the deck. Bashir tells the engineer that the job pressure has been getting to O'Brien and asks him to take over. He tells O'Brien he's seen enough and they should get him to sickbay. He smiles and leads O'Brien away. A Klingon ship arrives and Dax wants to beam over to the station to help Odo and Worf. Sisko says he thinks it would be better if Chief O'Brien and Dr. Bashir go. But she wants to run into Koloth, which is why Sisko doesn't want her to go. He tells Kira to beam the doctor and O'Brien to the station. Kira tells O'Brien and Bashir they will be able to beam in 3 minutes. Bashir says they better find a turbolift. The same woman is in it. She says "Hello again" and Bashir returns the "Hello." She tells him his flap is open and he says, "Excuse me?" She tells him his tricorder is draining power. She asks if he's a doctor and he says yes. She says she's just transferred from the Lexingon last week and she's coming in for her physical next week. She gives her name as Watley and the time and leaves. Bashir says his great grandmother's name was Watley and he thinks she was in Starfleet. What if it was her? He never met his great grandfather. This could be a predestination paradox. He could be destined to fall in love with that woman and become his own great grandfather. What if he never met with her tomorrow? He might never be born. Bashir says he can't just dismiss this and O'Brien says he can try. Bashir says, "Alright, fine. But I can't wait to get back to Deep Space Nine and see your face when you find out that I never existed." O'Brien just laughs and they transport. Bashir and O'Brien join Worf and Odo in the bar on the station. Bashir says that clearly they've been going about the search all wrong. O'Brien concurs, "Why bother searching thirty decks when you can just plunk yourself down at the bar here and wait for Darven to come to you." Odo says they have reason to believe he'll return and O'Brien says, "Ah yes, the raktojino." And Bashir adds, while getting another chair. "A vital clue that others might have missed. How fortunate it is, that it has kept you stuck at this bar for the past three hours, having drinks while we've been crawling through conduits." O'Brien identifies a man who enters as Kirk, and Bashir looks and asks if that is Kirk. The waitress comes by and points out Klingons and Bashir asks if those are Klingons. Worf confirms that they are Klingons but he says it's a long story. O'Brien asks if it was genetic engineering. Bashir asks if it was a viral mutation. Worf just says they don't discuss it. They see a disturbance. And Chief comments on "Kirk" again. Bashir asks if he's sure that's Kirk and he is but then Bashir asks why he's wearing lieutenants' stripes. Odo says they ahve worse things to worry about. Lt. Scott hits a Klingon and the other Klingons stand. The other Starfleeters stand, including O'Brien, Bashir, and Worf. Odo asks what they're doing. They get into the fight. Bashir gets in a few punches, knocking a Klingon out, then he rubs his hand in pain. The fight goes on until Security comes in and O'Brien and Bashir are taken into custody. Kirk lines them up and asks them who started the fight. He looks at O'Brien who says he doens't know. Kirk wants to know who threw the first punch and, when he looks away, Bashir looks to O'Brien. Kirk confines them all to quarters until he finds out. Bashir and O'Brien walk out and Bashir says that was close. Kirk is in awe that he talked to Kirk. Bashir reminds him that he lied to him and then he steps on something that chirps. He picks up the tribble saying he's sorry and asking who left him out there all alone. O'Brien says he's not alone and they look down the corridor to see dozens of them. In the transporter room on Defiant and flanked by Worf, Bashir, and O'Brien, Odo tells Sisko that Darven put a bomb in a tribble and it will go off within the hour. Sisko tells them to beam over to the station and search there. Sisko says they may have to scan every tribble manually. O'Brien says there must be thousands by now. Bashir says hundreds of thousands and Dax gives the number as 1,771,561. Bashir , Odo and O'Brien scan tribbles one by one in the bar when Sisko calls. Bashir gets frustrated and moves to a different spot. After Dulmer and Lucsly leave, Sisko, Dax, and Kira meet Odo on the Promenade where there are tribbles everywhere. Bashir can been seen stepping carefully through them and looking around.

The Assignment: Bashir comments that the plants O'Brien has been tending while Keiko is away don't look so good. He says they were dry as a bone when he came by yesterday but he doesn't think it's enough. O'Brien tells him taht too much water rots their roots. Molly comes in to say that Mommy will be made. O'Brien says he can't believe that they've killed her plants when she's only been gone five days. Bashir says she'll understand; they're just plants. O'Brien says they're her Bonzai trees. O'Brien wants Molly to tell Mommy but she won't. He looks to Bashir who says not to look at him. O'Brien counters that he killed them. Bashir says that "we" killed them and he thinks O'Brien is over-reacting. Keiko will understand and it's O'Brien's birthday after all. She's been on Bajor. She's missed him. Maybe O'Brien should bring her a gift. O'Brien agrees to the gift, but he wants Julian there with him. Bashir tells him, "You don't need me there. I've seen you handle your wife thousands of time. Just say you're sorry and that you take full responsibility. You'll be fine! Besides, I, uh, have to be in surgery, operating." O'Brien asks, "On who?!" as Bashir steps out the door. Bashir responds in a whisper, "I'll find someone!" Later, at the airlock, Keiko is eating chocolates and O'Brien tells Keiko it is Julian's fault. He was trying to be helpful and overwatered them. It really isn't his fault, he says, as, you know how he is, sometimes he doesn't know what he's doing. Keiko says they were just plants, it's not as if something happened to Molly or the baby. But then she says she's not Keiko. After more explanation of her threat, O'Brien thinks maybe she's sick and they should see Julian. O'Brien stalls, but the being in Keiko catches on, saying he's hoping someone helps him and names his friends, including Julian. Later, Julian comes by with plants. He asks if he's interupting something and O'Brien says yes, but Keiko tells him not to be rude. She says the plants are thoughtful. He says it was the least he could do after--- She interupts, saying it's alright and she forgives you. She asks if he's coming to the party. Bashir says he'll be there but it's not a surprise anymore. She apologizes to O'Brien, telling her she planned a party. O'Brien says he doesn't like surprises. Bashir says he should be going. He's left a patient on the operating table. At the party, O'Brien asks where Keiko is. Bashir says she's in with Molly working on a fashion crisis: helping Molly pick out the right shoes. She comes out with a cake and Molly, and the guests, including Bashir, sing "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow." O'Brien shatters his glass in frustration and Bashir asks to take a look, but O'Brien yells that he's alright. Then he apologizes and goes into a bedroom. When "Keiko" throws herself off the upper level of the Promenade, Bashir reports to O'Brien and others that she'll be fine. She's lucky she landed the way she did, as it distrubuted the impact. O'Brien asks if she's conscious. Bashir says she is but lists her injuries and says she needs rest. O'Brien wants to see her and Bashir says maybe in a few hours. O'Brien says he really needs to see her, and Sisko jumps in on his side. Bashir gives in saying he can see her for a few minutes and not to excite her. After a few minutes, Bashir goes in and tells them she needs to rest. With Bashir watching, "Keiko" tells O'Brien to give her a kiss. As O'Brien leaves, Bashir says she'll be back on her feet soon. On the Promenade, Worf approaches O'Brien and asks how Keiko is. O'Brien says Julian says she'll be alright. Bashir is with Sisko, Odo, and Security to welcome the Chief and his real wife back. Julian takes her arm and escorts her off.

Let he Who Is Without Sin: (Only for my website will I suffer through this terrible episode.) In the Replimate with Captain Sisko and Dax, who just joined them, Odo reports that Dax has been treated for 7 muscle pulls, 2 contusions and 3 cracked ribs and that only Worf has spent more time in the Infirmary in the last few weeks. After Odo and Sisko leaves, Bashir and Leeta arrive. He says he's been thinking about this trip on Risa. Leeta says they want to come along. Dax says she and Worf were hoping to have some time alone together. Bashir says they'll have it and Leeta adds that once they get there, they won't even see them. She hugs Worf when they finally agree, and then leaves. Bashir leans in and Worf tells him no tto hug him. Bashir laughs and just promises they'll stay out of his hair before leaving. At the airlock, Leeta is hanging on Bashir. Quark is coming along. Leeta says he wouldn't give her the time off if they didn't bring him along. Bashir asks if it will be a problem. They run off into the runabout with Dax and Worf, not so happily following. One the way, Leeta serves drinks, giving Tarkalean tea to Bashir, Raktojino to Dax and an extra large prune juice to Worf. She sits down on Bashir's lap. Quark hands out hor-gon's to everyone but Worf. Leeta asks what it is and Bashir names it. Quark explains it. Leeta puts hers to Bashir's and says they seem to like each other. Leeta and Dax leave to change clothes. Bashir leans toward Worf and says, "When in Rome..." and then goes to change into the most ridiculous pair of pants. I can't even look. They beam down and Leeta kisses Bashir. He tells the others to enjoy their vacations and then Bashir and Leeta move off. Later, Worf and Dax find Bashir kissing another woman, as they had found Leeta with another man and noted he wasn't Bashir. Worf and Dax attend a rally. Bashir joins them asking if the speaker just insulted them. The speaker keeps speaking and Bashir asks if the others think he really believes that. Dax thinks he does. Later at dinner, Bashir tells him it's nonsense. Worf counters that he has a point, the Federation is soft, basically, and ememies will think they can win. Bashir says it doesn't have anything to do with Risa. Leeta joins them, happy to find Julian. She says she's so glad they came and she's having the most wonderful time. Bashir says he told her it was just what they needed and they kiss. Worf tosses down his napkin and Bashir asks if something is wrong. Worf says they dishonor themselves with their actions. Bashir realizes they didn't tell them why they came. They are conducting the Bajoran Rite of Separation. Leeta explains. Bashir says it's a very wise and ancient culture. Leeta tells Bashir she hasn't quite gotten him out of her system yet. He says he knows what she means and then excuses themselves. Later, Bashir and Leeta perform the ceremony. I'm not going into it here. This ep is torturous enough. Afterward, Quark, who was acting as witness, complains that there were no aruments and fireworks. Then Leeta says she's glad she can findally talk about her feelings. They make her admit she has been thinking about another man these last few months. Bashir and Quark make her tell them who and she says, Rom. Quark and and Bashir are both surprised. Quark hands him a hor-gon and tells him Bashir needs it more than he does. Later, Bashir says he understands Worf walking out on Dax when he found her with Arandis. He says he knows Arandis was Curzon's lover, not hers, but if he'd walked in on the two of them together, well, trying to figure her out is not easy. Quark says he likes that about her. Bashir says it's why he chased after her for so long. Dax says she wants them to stop talking about her like she's not there. Bashir says that's why he stopped chasing after her. She's too much work. She says Worf is too much work. Quark says she needs a Ferengi. Dax says maybe, but she wants Worf. Bashir asks, with exasperation, why?! Arandis comes saying she can't find Worf. Quark suggests going skinny dipping in the hot springs. Bashir says he never thought he'd say this but he's with Quark. Then the lightning strikes. They all go to the solarium together and Arandis says there's a malfuction with the weather grid. Worf and the Essentialists he's joined say it was his idea. Bashir asks if he's serious. After the Essentialists leave, Bashir asks Worf if he's out of his mind. Later, Quark complains that it's glemmening out there (one of the worst of 178 words for rain in Ferengi). Before the leave, Quark says he has to go find Bashir. He took a hor-gon down to breakfast and he hasn't seen him since.

Things Past: Worf calls Dr. Bashir to Transporter Room 5 for a medical emergency after Captain Sisko's runabout returns from Bajor with all four occupants unconcious. Bashir and Worf beam onto the runabout and he scans Odo then Sisko. He says he's alive but there's extra neural engery in his cerebral cortex. Worf wants to know what that means but Bashir says he's not sure. Worf asks if Bashir can revive them (Sisko, Odo, Dax, and Garak), but Bashir says he's not sure of that either. In the Infirmary, Bashir notes all have high levels of neural activity, which suggests their conscious minds are active, but there's not response to external stimuli. Bashir asks Worf what about the runabout. Worf says there are indications the runabout encountered a Class 2 plasma storm. Bashir asks the computer if their systems are consistant with encountering a plasma storm. The computer answers there is no correlation. He asks how many medical records there are on space plasma phenomenon. The computer replies that there are 5,021. Bashir concludes a common phenomena has had an uncommon effect on their people. Worf says they are still analyzing the runabout and Bashir says he has more reading to do. Later Worf calls Bashir over when Garak develops a nose bleed. Bashir finds that Garak's capillaries burst at the point when he had unusual neural activity. He says the bleeding could be a psycosematic response. Worf asks if he means Garak thought he was injured. Bashir gives him several examples where people have given themselves actual injuries from psychological stimuli. Worf asks if they could have more serious injuries. Bashir says he doesn't think Garak could break a bone, but he could stop his heart or burst a blood vessel in his vein. Worf asks what's causing all this but Bashir has to repeat himself: he just doesn't know. Bashir is at Odo's side as the later wakes up. Bashir tells him that whatever they've gone through has taken its tole. Later, in Security, he tells Odo that it seems the four of them were in some sort of Great Link. Odo says he's a solid now. Bashir says he's not as solid as he thinks. He shows him a padd with evidence of morphogenic compounds found in a neural scan of his brain. Odo reads how it happened and Bashir says that his mind reached out for other changelings but only found Garak, Sisko, and Dax. He says it would make a fascinating paper. When Odo gives him a look, he adds that he doesn't intend to write it. Kira comes in and Bashir excuses himself.

The Ascent: After a crash and nearly freezing and starving to death, Odo is beamed up to the Defiant and Bashir calls the Infirmary to prepare and IV drip. Odo asks if he's alive and Bashir tells him he is and he's going to see that he stays that way. He scans Odo and places something on his forehead. He goes with him as Odo is carried out of the transporter room.

Rapture: Quark calls the Infirmary for a medical emergency in Holosuite 4 after Sisko was zapped. Later, Bashir reports there's no seen of permanent neural damage though the is noting odd synaptic potentials. He asks Sisko if his uniform (new style) looks brighter than before. Sisko says it does, everything does, especially colors. Bashir tells him it's called post-neural shock syndrome. He says Sisko's neural pathways were overloaded bya plasma burst and all external stimuli will seem more pronounced. He says it will take awhile to dissipate and he'll put ihim on restricted duty for the next three days. He tells him if he has another symptoms to contact him immediately but, in the meantim, to enjoy the show. Later, underground while searching for B'Hala, Sisko collapses against a wall, holding his head. He says Julian says headaches might be a side effect of the accident. Later, Admiral Watley orders him to report to Dr. Bashir for a full physical. In the Infirmary, the admiral asks where Sisko is. Bashir says his runabout docked only 25 minutes before so he's sure he's on his way. The admiral wants Bashir to give him a full workup. He says he examined Sisko before he left for Bajor and he didn't complain of any new symptoms, though his scans still showed the same synaptic potentials. He says he was hoping the problem would have cured itself by now. The admiral says it hasn't and asks if Bashir can do anything. Bashir thinks and then stands, saying he could try neuro-polaric induction but it's a very serious operation and he doesn't want to do that unless it's absolutely necessary. The admiral says he knew there would be trouble when Sisko allowed the Bajorans to call him Emissary. Bashir says he couldn't help it. The Bajorans believed he's the Emissary and there's nothing they can do to change their minds. They hear voices in the Promenade and look out. Sisko is walking among adoring Bajorans, giving prophesies, but then he collapses with a headache. Bashir and the Admiral run to him but he says he's find and offers a prophecy to the admiral. The admiral asks Bashir how he knew about it, and Bashir just says he's the Emissary. Then, Basshir finishes the examination and tells Sisko he'll have the results soon. He moves off to work on that, while the others discuss his prophecy. He returns to asks Sisko why he didn't tell him about the headaches before now. Sisko says he was just too busy. Bashir says if he had stayed busy, he would have died. He says the area of unusal neural activity has increased 8% and his basal ganglia are starting to depolarize. He says he'll have to operation and try to repolarize them. Sisko asks if it will stop his visions. Sisko says no one knows for sure, but he thinks that if he can return his brain to normal, the visions will stop. Sisko says he can't do it. Bashir tries to reinforce that if he doesn't, he will die. Later, Jake raises his voice at his father about not wanting to let Bashir do the operation. Later, in Ops, Kira says the Prophets will not allow the Emissary to die. Chief O'Brien says he'd rather see Julian take care of him. After Sisko interrupts the ceremony for Bajor joining the Federation and then collapses in a seizure, Sisko is taken to the Infirmary where Bashir says his entire nervous system is depolarizing and he needs to operate. Kira says Sisko didn't want it. The admiral argues and orders Bashir to operate. Bashir says it's not that simple. He can't go against his patient's decision, not without the consent of his closest relative. So Jake must decide. Jake tearfully decides to have it done and tells Bashir to do what he has to do. Bashir tells his nurse to prepare for surgery then politely asks everyone else to leave. Some time later, Sisko wakes up, crying that Bashir took away the visions. Bashir says he had no choice; he was dying.

The Darkness and the Light: Bashir asks Kira if she's been taking her herbs. She hesitates but says "Mostly." He reminds her that her progesterine levels are way to low and she has to take them. She argues that the herbs keep the sedatives from working. He says they can be a counteragent, but he thought she said she wasn't having trouble sleeping. She admits she's not but those herbs taste like something that crawled out of Quark's ear. He tells her to take them and she reluctantly agrees. Odo interrupts to speak with Kira. Bashir asks her if they're done and she nods. Bashir walks away so they can speak. Later, O'Brien asks Kira how she feels and she says she hadn't slept well and Julian has her on those herbs again. Later, Bashir examines a dead contact of Kira's from her days in the resistance. When Kira comes over, he says he's sorry. She says she's been hearing that a lot. She asks for a moment, and he says, "Of course," and moves away. Later, Kira tells Lupiza that yes, she has been sneezing, but the doctor has been giving her something for it. After an explosion in O'Brien's quarters, Dax calls the Infirmary to have Bashir report to the Habitat Ring, Level 5, Section 21 Alpha for a medical emergency. After Kira collapses, she wakes up in the Infirmary with Bashir asking if she can hear him. She gasps, "The baby?!" He says the baby is fine. She suffered a placental laceration and began to hemorrhage, but he has repaired the damage and she's going to be alright. She asks if Lupiza and Ferrel are dead, and he confirms. She asks about O'Brien, but he says O'Brien wasn't there at the time. She asks if they died quickly and he says, "Instantly." Odo comes and asks if he can speak with Kira. Bashir agrees and leaves. Later, when Kira is held captive by Silerin an dhe's about to take the baby from her womb, she tells him that Dr. Bashir said the baby needed at least three more weeks. After she defeats him and calls for help, Odo, Sisko, and Bashir beam down. Odo asks if she's alright and Bashir says she is and she has a lot of sedative in her system but the herbs he's been giving her counteracted it. She stands up and says, "Let's go home," and Sisko calls for 4 to beam up. Bashir beams up with the others.

The Begotten: Bashir welcomes Odo to the Infirmary, offing a good morning and asking what he can help him with today. He scans Odo briefly and tells him he's got a pinched nerve from bad posture. Odo says that's ridiculous as he sits straight. Bashir tells him he carries himself to rigidly. He's not a changeling anymore and he's not always had a spinal collumn. He tells him he has to learn to relax. Odo says he told him that last week. "And?" Bashir asks. Odo says it helped, that and the prune juice, and Bashir tells him he knows what he's talking about it. Quark comes in to badger Odo, but Bashir goes on saying he needs is a good stretching regimine. He should join Worf's morning exercise class. Quark offers a holosuite program involving three Orion slave girls. Bashir smiles then walks away as Odo begins to yell. Bashir walks over saying that if it's a changeling, they should get it behind a security field. Odo tells him that won't be necessary. Bashir says it could be dangerous if it gets out of the container. Odo says it doesn't know how, as it's just a baby. Sisko comes to the Infirmary and asks Odo about the baby while Bashir is in the background studying a display, he comes over and says it was exposed to a massive amount of tetrion radiation and he'll need to purge the isotopes. Sisko tells him to get on it and Bashir takes the changeling away. Sisko leaves them and Odo looks back at the changing and Bashir. Later, Bashir tells him the purge was almost 100% effective and the concentration of isotopes is negligible. He tells Odo that he needs to check on Kira, who's in labor. Odo doesn't seem to be paying attention and Bashir says he guesses Odo has his own baby to think about. He tells him, as he packs, that there is still a small degree of instability in its morphogenic matrix. He's set the computer to monitor it for biomemetic fluctuations in case it doesn't just level out. He says, "Good luck," to Odo and leaves. Bashir goes to Kira and a Bajoran woman is rattling a rattle, followed by a different instrument with Keiko and a gong with O'Brien. O'Brien thinks something's wrong. Bashir sits down beside him and tells them Bajoran women need to be relaxed to give birth. O'Brien complains that she won't be relaxed until Shakaar comes and he called him six hours before. Keiko defends him, saying he's the First Minister and probably very busy. Bashir says he's very busy too, and has three patients. He says he'll check back later and leaves. The Bajoran woman says Kira won't have the baby today and Kira gets upset. The woman says she can go see Dr. Bashir, but Kira says she wants to have the baby the traditional Bajoran way. Later, Bashir tells Dr. Mora and Odo that the baby changeling was damaged by the radiation more than he thought and it's lifesigns are fading. Dr. Mora suggests an enzymatic induction. Bashir says it's worth a shot. He takes the baby and he and Dr. Mora leave. Later, Bashir lets Odo into the Infirmary and informs him they can do no more and it won't be long. They step away so he can be alone with with the baby. The baby absorbs into Odo's body and Odo reacts. Dr. Mora asks what's wrong and Bashir explains. Then Odo laughs and says, "It can't be." They watch him step onto the Promenade and take flight as a Tarkalean Hawk.

For the Uniform: Bashir was not in this one.

In Purgatory's Shadow: Bashir is sitting at a table with Ziyal when Garak returns and tells them the transmission Sisko wanted him to translate. He says it was just a five-year-old planetery survey report and Bashir, shocked, repeats that as a question. He says he would have thought Garak would be disapointed to as it might be from one of the survivors of the Cardassian fleet lost in the Gamma quadrant. Garak excuses himself but he tells Bashir to tell Captain Sisko that he'll be glad to translate any other laundry lists. After he's gone, Ziyal tells Bashir that there's something about Garak she finds fascinating. Bashir tells her Garak has his moments. A bit later, Garak sneaks into a runabout and Bashir turns around in his seat with a phaser pointed at him, asking if he's going somewhere. Garak says he must remember to stop underestimating the doctor. He asks how he knew. Bashir asks if he means that Garak was lying then answers that he knows he's not the giving up type. Garak says he's come a long way from the naive young man he met 5 years ago. He's become distrustful and suspicious. He says it suits him. Bashir says he had a good teacher. Bashir drops the phaser and stands, asking what the message really said. Garak replies it's the a call for help...from Enabran Tain. Bashir says Garak saw Tain's ship destroyed by the Dominion. Garak says he did but Tain was the head of the Obsidian Order for 20 years. If he can survive that, he can survive anything. He says he has to find him, he owes it to him. Bashir reminds him he doesn't owe Tain anything, and he was the one who had him exiled. Garak agres but ssays aside from that, they were very close. Tain was his mentor and he's not toing to turn his back on hijm. He tells Bashir tha, if it would make him feel better, he can go with him. He only has to make up some excuse why he needs the runabout and they could leave immediately. Bashir wants to make it straight: Garak wants him to lie to his commanding officer, violate Starfleet regulations and go with him to the Gamma Quadrant in a mission that will likely get them both killed. Garak says he's ready when Bashir is. Bashir sits, saying, "In that case, let's go...." Garak turns to the controls. Bashir continues, "...to Captain Sisko's office" and punctuates it with the phaser. In Sisko's office, Sisko questions Garak while Bashir stands by. Bashir tells Sisko he can't let Garak go: it's too dangerous. Garak tells him the concern is touching but he can take care of himself. Sisko agrees that he can't go alone. Garak tells Bashir it looks like he's volunteered. Sisko says Bashir won't be going anywhere; he has someone else in mind. Later, after a warning from Worf of a Dominion invasion, Bashir is at the briefing. Sitla let's them all know Starfleet's forces are spread thin. O'Brien asks what help they can expect from Cardassian. Gul Dukat offers his one ship and his crew. Bashir says, "One ship. Things are looking brighter." In a Dominion internment camp, a Romulan woman lets Worf, Garak, Martok and the others know they are releasing "him" from isolation. Worf asks who. Then the Jem'Hadar roughly shove Dr. Julian Bashir into the barracks. He's wearing the old style uniform, his hear is longer and he has not shaved in awhile, so that gives you a clue how long he's been there. He sharpens a piece of metal to prick his finger and show his blood proves he's no changeling. Worf, Garak, and Martok watch carefully. He wipes it on the table between the bunks and says, "B- in case you were wondering." Martok says they're all who they seem to be. Worf says that's only if the blood tests can be trusted. Bashir says it's all they have. Garak asks about the others, if they've been tested. Bashir says all but the Breen in the room. "No blood." Garak asks when he was brought there. Bashir says it was over a month. He says he was at a burn conference on Mezan IV. He went to bed one night and woke up there. Martok tells his similar story. Bashir then says he can only imagine what his replacement is doing on the station. Worf says they'll have to escape and warn Sisko before that changeling has a chance to carry out his mission. On the station, Changeling-Bashir offers sandwiches to O'Brien and Dax who are working on a way to close the wormhole early in the morning. O'Brien asks what he's doing up so early. He tells them they've been working for 16 hours straight and could do with some sandwiches. O'Brien calls him a gentleman and a scholar. Changeling-Bashir says truer words were never spoken and tells them to let him know if they need anything at all. (C-Bashir for short, from now on.) Bashir and Garak walk around the prison. Garak says he should never have come. Bashir says he's glad he has come. Misery loves company. Garak goes on about Tain, how he hoped he could forgive him. Bashir tells Garak that Tain doesn't seem like the forgiving type. Garak tells him the best lesson he coud teach him is that sentiment is the greatest weakness of all. Bashir says that if that's true, it's a lesson he'd rather not learn. Martok arrives and tells Garak that if he wants to speak to Tain, he should do it now before it's too late. Garak goes to Tain and Bashir sits on the bunk opposite him. Tain, who is dying, asks if Garak is alone. Garak looks back at Bashir and says, "Yes. There's no one else here but you and me." Garak says he'll do what Tain asks, but only if he asks as a father asking his son. Bashir leans forward in surprise. Tain tells a story of when he was proud of his son, Elim Garak, then he dies. Bashir asks, "Garak?" and Garak stands and covers Tain's body. Martok and Worf return and Garak says his work there is done and Worf says they need to find a way out of there. On the station, they're about to close the wormhole. Dax says, "Worf." And C-Bashir finishes her sentense, "is a Klingon Warrior. He'll understand." Sisko says they need to do this now. O'Brien says ready and C-Bashir says, "Here goes nothing." It doesn't work. It has the opposite effect and the wormhole opens allowing a large fleet of Dominion ships. C-Bashir walks closer to the main viewscreen.

By Inferno's Light: Bashir and the others pace in their Barracks until the Romulan woman gives the all-clear. Worf asks where the transmitter that Tain used is. Martok looks to Bashir. Bashir goes to Tain's bunk. He lifts the edge and retreives a metal tool covered in cloth. He then moves the bunk out of the way with Martok's help. He uses the tool to pry off a small panel from the wall. Once that's off, he pops the larger, adjacent panel off from the inside. Worf bends down to look and Bshir tells him that you have to crawl through the hole and slide up the wall. Martok explains how Tain made a transmitter from the life support system behind the wall. Worf asks if the coordinates and message can be changed. Garak realizes he wants to contact the runabout. Worf confirms that they could beam onto the runabout. Bashir finishes his thought by saying, "And run like hell." Garak says it won't be easy. Bashir asks if he can do it. Garak questions that. Bashir says he's no engineer and neither is Worf. He says Garak is a man of many talents and that if he can't do it, no one can. Garak says it's nice to feel needed. A chime goes off and all prisoners are ordered to assemble. Bashir quickly closes up the wall and they all go to assemble. Martok explains who Deyos, the Vorta who runs the camp is. He's told not to talk by the Jem'Hadar. Bashir quickly comments to Garak, "Touchy, aren't they?" All Cardassians are told to step forward. Bashir looks to Garak and then Garak steps forward with the others. All Cardassians are being sent home, as Cardassia has joined the Dominion. Garak looks back to Bashir, who nods slightly that he should go. But Deyos stops him, saying he has to stay, by order of the head of the new Cardassian government, Gul Dukat. In the Ward Room on the station, C-Bashir stands next to Dax as the senior staff listends to Dukat's speech about joining the Dominion. They then discuss the sabotage to their emitters which made the wormhole matrix stronger, rather than collapsing it. C-Bashir says that they obviously have a changeling on the station and they need another round of blood screenings. Dax asks why he thinks there's a changeling. C-Bashir says that's who he'd send. Kira says he may be right. A Bajoran maintenance engineer has disappeared. C-Bashir says that if that was their changeling, he's either moved on or taken on a new identity. Sisko says they can't afford to take chances and orders blood screenings and phaser sweeps. In the camp, Martok says Garak is taking too much time. Bashir asks how long he's been in the wall. Worf replies it's been over an hour. Bashir asks Garak how he's doing in there. Garak responds that it would make a great interrogation chamber. Bashir jokes that it seems he's enjoying himself. Garak offers to switch places with him. Bashir tells him he supposes Garak could give him a crash course in Cardassian field engineering. He could surely take over in 5 or 6 weeks. The Romulan woman at the door announces visitors are coming. Bashir tells Garak to keep quiet and closes up the wall. Worf helps push the cot back. As the Jem'Hadar enter, Bashir notices the tool on the floor and step on it to hide it under his foot. The Jem'Hadar take Worf out to fight. As soon as they're gone, the Romulan woman goes to the door. Bashir tells the Romulan man to give him a hand and they pull out the cot. Bashir tells Garak to hold on. The woman tells them to wait, the guards are still too close. They put the cot back and Bashir sits on it. Bashir tells him it will be just a little longer. Bashir grows frustrated and rubs his forhead saying, "Come on!" under his breath. Finally, the guard moves away and the woman says it's clear. Bashir gets Garak out and helps him up. He asks him how his is. Garak says he's fine; it was just a bit hot. He says he got light-headed and he'll go back in a minute. Bashir says his pulse is racing and he should maybe wait until tomorrow. Garak asks if he wants to get of this rock. Bashir says Garak knows he does. He tells him to rest, for 5 minutes, and then he'll be able to take a 15 minute rest each hour. Doctor's orders. On the station, C-Bashir treats a burn on Gowron's hand while the latter tells Sisko what happened. He works while they discuss bringing the Kitomer Accords again. Gowron realizes they could stand together against the Dominion. And if they do? C-Bashir answers that they might have a chance. Sisko gives C-Bashir a look and then heads out, with the Kitomer Accords in effect again. A little while later, C-Bashir kneels down in a darkened runabout. He makes some changes to a console. Back in the camp, Bashir tells Worf he has 3 or 5 broken ribs. Worf says they will heal. Bashir says they won't if he keeps fighting. He's lucky he didn't puncture a lung. Even a Klingon body can take only so much punishment. Worf says he will fight. Martok says it's the only honorable thing to do. Bashir says he will lose and maybe, in this condition, even die. Worf says then he will die, but he will not yield. Martok says, "You heard him. Bandage his ribs!" Bashir wraps his wounds and puts his jacket back on him, saying it was the best he could do. He asks if it feels any better. Worf says he feels much better and Bashir tells him he's not very good at lying. They hear banging coming from the wall. Martok asks how long Garak has been in there. Bashir says about a half hour. He and Martok go and move the cot. Bashir asks Garak what it is. Bashir opens it. Martok tells him to tell Garak to stop before he's heard. Bashir tells Garak the panel is open now an dhe can come out. But he doesn't. He tells Martok, they have to get him out. He crawls in and makes his way to Garak. He tells him he has to stop; he's making too much noise. It takes a few tries to Garak's attention. Garak says the light went out. Bashir says "I know. Come on. I think you can take your break a little early." He leads him out and then cover shim with a blanket on one of the cots. He tells the others Garak suffers from an acute form of claustrophobia. It's a wonder he lasted as long as he did. Worf says one of them will have to finish. Bashir asks who he would suggest. Worf doesn't respond and Bashir says, "Exactly." Martok says that if Garak cannot finish it, they're not going anywhere. Later, Bashir and Martok escort Worf back in. Martok says a hero of legend would have done as well as Worf. Worf says heroes of legends don't hurt as much. He sit down and Bashir pulls out their case of first aid supplies. Martok talks about having a song written worthy of Worf. Bashir tells him to be sure to send him a copy. Martok says he'll do better than that. He'll make sure he mentions the healer that bound the warrior's wound so he could fight again. Bshir works on some bandages. Worf says he only wants to hear the voice of the song that tells of their escape. Bashir says they have to come up with a new escape plan. Garak rolls over and says it won't be necessary as the original one will work. He says he has to finish what he started; a verse about the Cardassian who panicked the face of danger would ruin General Martok's song. Martok says thart would be unfortunate. Garak says his dungeon awaits. The woman goes to the door to watch and Bashir and the Romulan man move the cot so Bashir can open the wall for Garak. On the station, O'Brien comes to the Infirmary where C-Bashir is working. O'Brien asks about a Klingon engineer. Bashir tells him he was dismissed; his plasma burns weren't as bad as they looked. O'Brien says he needs to find him. He needs his help or he'll never get those Klingon ships up and running. C-Bashir says he all every confidence in him and O'Brien jokes that that makes all the difference. C-Bashir asks about Keiko and the kids. O'Brien asnswers. Bashir tells him that he ordered 2 sets of darts he told him about. O'Brien yells that he shouldn't be thinking about darts when they're facing a major interstellar war. C-Bashir says life must go on and he has a feeling everything will turn out for the best. O'Brien says he hopes he's right and leaves. C-Bashir goes back to his computer. In the camp, Bashir rocks impatiently while Garak works in the wall. While Worf fights Ikat'Ika, the First, the Jem'Hadar come toward the barracks. Bashir asks the woman if they can get Garak out. She says there's no time. Bashir knocks on the wall to let Garak know. He sits on the bench between the bunks. The Jem'Hadar asks Bashir where the Cardassian is. Bashir looks up at him and says, "Outside, I suppose." The Jem'Hadar bashes him in the head with his gun, saying he's not outside. They begin searching the barracks. Bashir asks what they want with him while he gets back up. One of the Jem'Hadar finds the tool. The one questioning tells Bashir that if he wishes to live, he must explain the tool. In one of the runabouts on the station, C-Bashir pilots the Yukon and replies to O'Brien in a woman's voice. There are three dead Starfleet officers behind him. He takes off. In the camp, the Jem'Hadar asks for the last time, what it is. Bashir says, "It's either a self-sealing stembolt or a reverse-ratcheting router. I'm just not sure." The Jem'Hadar turns and shoots the Romulan man who disappears. Bashir stands. The Jem'Hadar says the woman is next. Another Jem'Hadar finds the loose panel and begins to remove it. Bashir looks on in worry. The lead Jem'Hadar asks the other what he sees, but he says he sees nothing but dark. Suddenly the Breen jumps up and takes the gun from the lead Jem'Hadar and shoots him. The woman takes the case and hits another. The Breen and the Jem'Hadar in the panel shoot each other. While the woman wrestles with the Jem'Hadar, Bashir takes the tool and removes the cloth wrapper. He goes to the Jem'Hadar with the woman and stabs him in the neck. While he helps her to a feet, she says, "My people have a saying: Never turn your back on a Breen." Garak tells Bashir to keep the noise down, he's trying to work in there. Bashir asks him how many transtater circuits he has left. Garak answers three. Bashir picks up a Jem'Hadar weapon and tells Garak to work fast because pretty soon they're going to be up to their necks in Jem'Hadar. He hands the handgun to the woman. Garak gets it and the Klingons in the ring, and Bashir and the woman in the cell, and Garak in the wall dematerialize and rematerialize on the runabout. Bashir goes to Worf and tells Martok to take him to one of the cabins in the back. He'll be with him as soon as he can. He goes to the cockpit and tells Garak to go to maximum warp; they hav to get a message to the station. On the station, O'Brien picks up a priority message from the Gamma Quadrant. He reports in surprise, that it's Dr. Bashir! Sisko is confused. he asks the computer to locate Dr. Bashir. The computer answers that he's not on the station. Sisko asks for his last known location. The computer gives it as Runabout Pad E. Sisko gives Defiant new orders to destroy the Yukon at any cost. Kira, in command of the Defiant finds the Yukon heading for the Bajoran sun. C-Bashir tinkers with a bomb when his runabout is hit by fire. But on Defiant, Dax says the shields are holding and she's picking up a bomb. She and Kira realize he's trying to destroy the sun and the whole solar system. They go to warp to grab the Yukon and drag it away from the sun. C-Bashir looks up just before the runabout blows up. In the Infirmary on the statioin, O'Brien asks Bashir if he's been hanging around with a changeling for over a month. Bashir, now in the new uniform, asks if he never even suspsected it wasn't him. O'Brien says no, but the worst part was that the clues were right in front of him. Bashir asks what clues. O'Brien says he was easier to get along with. Bashir blows out a disgusted breath and goes back to his instruments.

Doctor Bashir, I Presume: Dr. Bashir is playing darts with Chief O'Brien in Quark's. He calls out O'Brien's score, saying he's back in the zone. O'Brien says he's never really left it, but was giving him a chance to get even. Bahsir tells him he doesn't need charity. Bashir asks if he'd like another game and O'Brien says maybe one, but he needs to get home to Molly, who is feeling a bit left out since the baby arrived. Bashir says a father's work is never done. O'Brien says it's worth it and Bashir ought to try it sometime. Bashir doesn't think so, but O'Brien tells him he thinks he'd be a great father. Bashir says he's not really the family type. Someone says, "Doctor Bashir, I presume?" Bashir replies yes, and the man says he's Louis Zimmerman, Director of Holographic Imaging and Programming at the Jupiter Research Station and he's there to make Bashir immortal. A bit later, in Sisko's office, Zimmerman explains that Bashir is to the model for a new long-term medical hologram. Bashir actually defends Zimmerman, saying there are many uses for a long-term medical ologram and lists a few, such as research ourpotsts. Sisko points out that this must be quite an honor for Bashir. Bashir agrees that it's quite a feather in his cap. Zimmerman says it's a shot a immortality. After Zimmerman leaves, Siosklo shakes Bashir's hand and congratulates him. He says he's sure the whole station is proud of him. Bashir thanks him. Later, in the Infirmary, Bashir comments that it's a very long questionarre that he's trying to fill out while O'Brien helps Zimmerman with the technology setup. Zimmerman explains why he has to answer them all, as the LMH will need to interact with all kinds of people. O'Brien says that if this works, Bashir will be able to irritate hundreds of people he's never even met. Zimmerman says if they can suspend their oh-so-amusing-banter, he'd like to start the optical scans. Bashir asks what he wants him to do. Zimmerman says to stand there and look like a doctor, if he can. Later, in Quark's, Zimmerman and Bashir look over the railing at Leeta, and Zimmerman comments that they don't have anyone like her on Jupier station. Bashir tells him who she is, and that she's his ex-girlfirend. Zimmerman asks who broke it if off and says he likes her already when Bashir says that she did. Zimmerman says he'll have to add her to the round of interviews. Bashir asks about the interviews, and Zimmerman explains he'll have to do in-depth interviews with friends, family, and coworkers, to build a a more rounded psychological profile for the LMH. Bashir tries to tell him gently not to bother this parents, but Odo interrupts for a health certificate for a freigher that wants to leave early. Bashir tells him he'll meet him in the cargo bay in ten minutes. Before he leaves, Bashir asks Zimmerman, as a favor, not to interview his parents. He says they haven't been close and haven't been for many yeears and he'd prefer if he kept his parents out of it. Zimmerman says he understands, but when Bashir leaves, he makes a note to contact subjects parents immediately. Later, Zimmerman orders the computer to open the LMH Test Program 1. Bashir says it looks alright, but its eyes don't have that sparkly, that zest for life, that greets him in the mirror every morning. Zimmerman assures him the final program will be sufficiently zesty. Bashir asks if it talks. Zimmerman says it doesn't yet; he has to load software from the original program. He calls that up and runs a diagnostic. The hologram gets worried about being replaced by the new hologram. He says he doesn't even look old enough to be a doctor. The holographic Bashir suggests that the older program be deleted as it's archaic. Zimmerman turns off the EMH. Bashir says the holographic Bashir sounds more like Zimmerman. Zimmerman reminds him that its software is a copy of the original and will have to updated to his algorythms. The Bashir hologram tells Bashir he hopes he's more interesting than he seems. He'd hate to be boring. Zimmerman says there may be preventing that. He says they'll see after he talk with his friends. Captain Sisko says he was young, eager and ambitious. He sometimes let his natural impulse override his sense of decorum. Jake says he could give you way too much information. Kira elloraborates that he just didn't know when to shut up. Zimmerman asks if he harrassed Jadzia and she says no, but, and she smiled, he was very persistant. Worf says he doesn't like doctors, any doctors. Zimmerman promises O'Brien that his comments will be strictly confidential. O'Brien says he's an extraordinary person, with honor and integrity, a great sense of humor, warm and caring....and asks if he's sure Julian's never going to read that. Later, Bashir tells Captain Sisko that he's a little concerned about the amount of argonite seeping into the stations air supply. Sisko says it's well within safety margins. Bashir agrees but says it's on the rise. Dax interrupts to say Julian has visitors. Sisko says to send them in. Bashir sees his mom and dad and says, "Oh...my God." His mother says, "Hello, Jules" and hugs him. His father hugs him, too, and Bashir introduces Amsha and Richard Bashir, his parents to the captain. He then has to suffer through his parents small talking with Sisko and Dax, especially with his father exaggerating his accomplishments, especially Julian. It's obvious Bashir is embarrassed. Amsha suggests they wait until later to tell more stories as the captain is a very busy man. Richard suggests they wait until after their inteviews. Bashir asks, in surprise, about the interviews. Richard tells him Dr. Zimmerman asked them to come. Amsha said he said it was urgent. She says he said they were working on an important project and they had to come right away. Bashir suggests he see if he can find them some accomodations. Dax says she hopes they can find some time to hear stories about Julian as a little boy. Richard holds out his hand and says, that from this high, they knew he was destined for greatness. Bashir, impatient, reminds him the captain is busy. He leads them out of the office. Later, he goes to the Infirmary where O'Brien is running the hologram into the wall over and over again. Bashir asks to see Dr. Zimmerman in private. O'Brien obliges. Bashir confronts Zimmerman on bringing his parents against his wishes. Bashir says he had no right to bring them here. Zimmerman says he simply issued an invitation. Bashir spits out that he said it was urgent. Zimmerman says it is urgent, to him. And he excuses himself to make a delivery. Later, Bashir glumly stares at his food during dinner, while his mother try to make small talk and his father complains about the captain of the transport that brought him. Bashir reminds him, when he goes on about his own experience running shuttles, that he's talking to him now and he was only a third class steward for six months. Amsha asks if he's still doing research. Bashir answers her and Richard says he could do that back on Earth but Jules insisted on frontier medicine. Bashir says that on DSNine, he can do both. Amsha tells Jules about Richard's newfound hobby of landscape architecture. Richard says he has some very good prospects on the horizon. Bashir says he always had very good prospects and they were always just over that horizong. Amsha changes the subject to the interviews they're doing tomorrow. Bashir says Zimmerman is going to ask them all sorts of questions and they should keep their answers brief and to the point. He says they don't want to give him any openings to probe into any awkward areas. Richard says he's sure they can handle it. Bashir tells him to not take it too lightly. Zimmerman will be asking detailed questions about his childhood and if they're not careful.... Richard says he doesn't trust them. Amsha says Jules didn't say that. Richard says but that's what he meant. Bashir says he's got a lot at stake. He could lose his career if Dr. Zimmerman gets wind of "our little secret!" Richard asjs what about them. They could go to prison and did he ever think about that. Bashir says of course he has and that's why he wants them to take this seriously. Richard mocks him, saying they aren't taking this seriously. They don't have his intellect so they can't see the perfectly obvious. Bashyir throws down his napkin, saying this is exactly why he hasn't been home in the last three years. He walks out. Amsha tries to get him to stay, but Richard says to let him go, he can't stand to be in the same room with them. As the door closes, Bashir slumps against the corridor wall, slides down and puts his hand over his face. Amsha and Richard go to the Infirmary. They approach Bashir and Amsha says his father has something to say. Richard says he may have said things he shouldn't have. Amsha says what he's trying to say is that he would never jeopardize Bashir's career. Richard, states it outright, that they will never mention or even hint at the fact that he was genetically enhanced as a child. Amsha says he can trust them. They've kept the secret for 25 years now. Richard gets worked up saying, despite what the authorities would say, genetical engineering is nothing to be ashamed of. He's not any less human, in fact, he's a little more. Amsha says they didn't come for anotehr fight. She says they shoudl just try to get through this. Bashir says, "Alright," and she gives him a kiss on the cheek before they leave. Then Dr. Zimmerman and O'Brien come out from the other room, and the holographic Bashir asks who those people were. In his quarters, Julian yells at O'Brien for setting them up. O'Brien says they didn't set them up. Dr. Zimmeran let the program cope with an unexpected situation. Bashir asks if he let them go on and make fools of themselves while he and Zimmerman sat in the back room and laughed. O'Brien says he's sorry this happened, but it did and they have a problem. Bashir turns away and quietly says he doesn't want to talk about it. O'Brien tells him Zimmerman is going to file a report saying he's unsuitable for computer modeling because of his suspected genetically-enhanced background. He asks if he knows what will happen if that report gets back to Starfleet Medical. Bashir turns back and says there will be a formal investigation, leading to his eventual dismissal from the service. O'Brien asks if it's true then, that he's--. "The word you're looking for is 'unnatural,'" Bashir calmly fills in, "meaning 'not from nature.' 'Freak' or 'monster' would also be acceptable." He sits down at the computer station on the other side of the room from O'Brien. "I was six. Small for my age, a bit awkward physically. Not very bright. In the first grade, when the other children were learning how to read and write and use the computer, I was still trying to tell a dog from a cat and a tree from a house! I didn't really understand what was happening. I knew that I wasn't doing as well as my classmates. There were so many concepts that they took for granted that I couldn't begin to master. And I didn't know why! All I knew was that I was a great disappointment to my parents. I don't remember when they made the decision, but just before my seventh birthday, we left Earth for Adigeon Prime. At first, I remember being really excited at seeing all the aliens in the hospital. Then they gave me a room, began the treatments, and my entire life began to change." O'Brien asks what the treatments were. "The technical term is 'accellerated critical neural pathway formation.' Over the course of the next two months, my genetic structure was manipulated to accellerate the growth of neurinal networks in his cerebral cortex, and a whole new Julian Bashir was born!" O'Brien asks how exactly they changed him. "Well, my mental abilities were top priority, of course. My IQ jumped five points a day for over two weeks! Followed by improvements in my hand-to-eye coordination, stamina, vision, reflexes, weight, height. In the end, everything but my name was altered in some way. When we returned to Earth, we even moved to a different city, and I was enrolled in a new school using falsified records my parents obtained somewhere. Instead of being the slowest learner, I was the star pupil!" O'Brien asks if anyone ever suspected. "There's no stigma attached to success, Chief. After the treatments I never looked back. But the truth is: I'm a fraud." O'Brien tells him he's not a fraud. Genetic recoding can't give you ambition, compassion, or a personality, or anything that makes a person truly human. Bashir reminds him that Starfleet Medical won't see it that way. "'DNA resequencing, for any reason other than repairing serious birth defects, is illegal. An genetically enhanced human being is barred from serving in Starfleet...or practicing medicine." O'Brien says there hasn't been a case like this in a hundred years. He can't be sure how they'll react. Bashir says he is sure. "Once the truth comes out, I'll be cashiered from the service. It's that simple" O'Brien wants to fight it. "There is something I can do," Bashir says. "Resign before Dr. Zimmerman files his report." O'Brien wants to stop him but he says he always knew this could happen and now it has. He says he'd like the be alone and O'Brien leaves. Later, Bashir's is in his parents' quarters. His dad wants to fight this right up through the Fedeartion Supreme Court. Bashir says he doesn't want to drag this through the courts. Richard says they are a little behind worrying about his wants. They need to stop whining and come up with a new plan. Bashir mocks him, "Yes, let's come up with a new plan!" He says that's how they do it their family: they don't face their problems but come up with new plans. Find a new job if they don't like the current one, find a way around the law if they don't like it. But whever they do, they don't accept responsibility. Richard mocks him saying with all his gifts, he wants to act like a spoiled child. He says he needs to grow up right now if he doesn't want to lose everything. Bashir says Richard will love everything. He'll lose his only real accomplishment in this life: him. He reminds him he called him his legacy, his proud gift to the world. Well his gift is going to be revealed as a fraud. Richard says he's still his father and he won't have him talk to him taht way. Bashir says he used to be his father. Now, he's his architect, the man who designed a better son to replace the defective one he was given. He says his design had a built-in flaw: it's illegal. Richard says he's still not smart enough to see that they saved him from a life of remedical education and underachievement. Bashir says they didn't give him a chance. Richard says he was falling behind. Bashir says he was six years old. They decided he was a failure before first grade. Richard says he doesn't understand and never did. Bashir stands up and yells that Richard doesn't understand. He stopped calling himself Jules when he was fifteen and he found out what they did to him. He's Julian. Richard asks what difference that makes. Bashir says it makes every difference because he's different. Jules Bashir died in the hospital because Richard couldn't live with the shame of having a son who didn't measure up! Amsha stands up then and says that wasn't true; they were never ashamed of him! She tells him he never had a child. He doesn't know what it's like to watch him falling behind a little further every day. He doesn't know what it's like to stay up every night worrying it's maybe his fault, that maybe he passed on a genetic defect. She says he can say it's illegal or immoral, what they did, but they didn't do it because they were ashamed, but because he was their son, and they loved him. She hugs Bashir and he hugs back. Amsha asks what he wants them to do. Bashir says he'll visit Captain Sisko in the morning and tender his resignation. He just wants to leave the station quietly. In the morning, he goes to Sisko's office and finds his parents already there and Rear Admiral Bennet, JAG, is on the holographic communications device. Sisko explains that they came to see him this morning and explained the situation. He contacted Admiral Bennet. Bennet says they've reached an agreement that will allow him to keep his commission and his medical practice. Richard says he's going to prison, 2 years in a minimal security penal colony in New Zealand. Bashir says they can't do this. Bennett says it was his father's suggestion. Bashir says he wants no part of it. Richard says it's his decision. He took him to Adigeon Prime and he should take responsibility for it. Amsha tells him to let him do this. They call him Julian. Bashir asks if two years isn't a bit harsh. Bennett reminds him of the Eugenics Wars and for every Dr. Bashir there's a Khan Sighn. He asks if Richard accepts. Richard says he does. Sisko tells Bashir to take all the time he needs and leaves his own office. Later, Bashir walks them to the airlock. He hugs his mother. Richard says he's sure he'll see Julian in a couple of years. Bashir says he's sure they have visiting hours in his facility. Richard says he'd be most welcome. They hug and then head in. Bashir calls to Richard and says "Thank you." Richard says he just might usher in a new era in lanscape architecture. He'll certainly have time to work on his designs. They part ways. Later, in Quark's, Bashir throws a couple bad darts. He says it's not his day. O'Brien says it's not his week. Bashir says he never got to thank him for what he--. O'Brien stops him. Then he realizes something and asks if Bashir has been letting him win. Bashir asks what makes him think that. O'Brien says he said his hand-eye coordination had been enhanced. Bashir admits he has been letting him win a little. O'Brien doesn't want to be patronized and says he can play at his level. Bashir says he never said he couldn't. O'Brien tells him to really play. Bashir throws three quick darts, right into the center, must to O'Brien's shock. He pulls the darts from the board. He moves Bashir farther back and says he'll play from there, and if that doesn't work, they'll try a blindfold.

A Simple Investigation: Bashir joins Dax, O'Brien and Odo at Quark's. He holds out a new holosuite program, Queen's Gambit. O'Brien comments that his friend promised it two months ago. Bashir says Felix says it's worth the wait. It's the most elorbarote program he's ever designed. Dax asks which parts she gets to play. Bashir tells her her part. O'Brien asks what about him. Bashir tells Odo his part. O'Brien asks again. Bashir starts to tell his part but O'Brien says they know his part. Bashir finally tells him he's Falcon, of course. O'Brien says he's tired of being the bad guy, but Dax says he does it so well. Bashir asks if everyone is okay for Saturday. Dax enthusiastically agrees. O'Brien does more reluctantly. Odo doesn't answer until Bashir prompts and he seems distracted. He asks his part again. Dax say it's to save the queeen and Bashir tells him he gets to drive fancy automobiles and attend posh parties. And he gets to steal her (he holds up a PADD with a picture of a beautiful woman) away from Falcon. Odo suggests he find someone else. Bashir asks if he's kidding and encourages him to look at that woman again! Odo says he's busy Saturday. Dax says they can wait for another time when he's free. But Odo says they'll have to find someone else. Bashir repeats that after Odo's gone. O'Brien says he'll do it. Later, in the holosuite, complimenting the beautiful woman on her hair not being out of place after jumping out of an airplane. He gets a tap on the window. He's standing even though the car Bashir is in is supposedly moving. Odo wants to speak privately and Bashir agrees. Odo asks how he seduced the woman. Bashir says it's that kind of program. He asks if this is about "bedroom eyes" and Odo is embarassed, suspecting Kira told him. Bashir admits it was O'Brien. He says if people are talking, it's only because they care. He tells him that if he's interested in the woman, he should let her know. Odo is afraid she might reject him. Bashir tells him if he doesn't, his heart can break from loneliness anyway, so he might as well take a chance. Another knock comes on the other window, and Bashir thinks it's the woman and tells her to wait just a minute, but it's O'Brien as Falcon. He says hello to Odo but keeps a gun on Bashir while sputters. Odo leaves and Bashir tries to tell Falcon this isn't fair. Falcon says he shouldn't stop for hitch-hikers. Later, in the Infirmary, Bashir helps to return Arissa's identity to her from an Idanian data chip. Finally, he says the transfer is complete and he's going to take her to surgery to return her appearance to Idanian.

Business as Usual: Bashir throws a dart from farther back in a game with O'Brien, who prepares to throw his dart with Baby Kirayoshi in his arms. Bashir tells him he should put the baby down first but O'Brien says he's been holding him for a week. Bashir argues there must be some babysitter on the station who can pacify him. O'Brien says there isn't and proves it by setting Yoshi down. Yoshi cries. Bashir comments that that is amazing. O'Brien picks the baby back up and Yoshi quiets. O'Brien throws his dart. Later, Bashir tells O'Brien, in the Infirmary, that Yoshi is fine, even if he's crying all the time. O'Brien asks if his baby is just sad. Bashir suggests that "Maybe he's just become prematurely aware of life's existential isolation." O'Brien asks if he's sure it's not a rash. Bashir tells him to look on the bright side, he might become a great poet. He says there's nothing he can do for the Chief. O'Brien says there is, as his neck hurts. Bashir goes to get a neural modulator.

Ties of Blood and Water: Dr. Bashir explains that Tekeny's Ghemor's disease has progressed into his digestive, circulatory, and respiratory systems, and cartilagenous tissues. The prognosis isn't good, but there are some treatments they can try. Ghemor thanks him for anything they can do. later, he sets up a bed for Tekeny in private quarters and gives Kira instructions on how to administer pain killer and replenish medication in the machine that's behind the bed. He tells her she can always contact a nurse for help. He reminds her that looking after someone with a terminal illness isn't easy, especially as she'll be acking as Ghemor's only sign of emotional support. She says she knows what she's getting into. He says he's sure she does, but she can contact him if she needs anything. He leaves her to Ghemor. When Ghemor is struck by pain, Kira administers the pain killer but then says maybe Dr. Bashir could get him something stronger, but Ghemor doesn't want that as it would leave him unconscious. Later, Bashir calls Kira to Ghemor's quarters. He tells her Ghemor is not responding to the therapy anymore. Dr. Bashir later goes to Kira's quarters to tell her Ghemor's condition has deteriorated and he'll be dead within the hour. Kira thanks him for the information but he questioned if that was it. He says Ghemor wants to see him. He says it's almost over, no more questions to ask, just go to him and sit, but Kira says no and not to ask her again. Bashir says, "Fine, if that's what you want, but I think you're making a mistake. Regardless of what Ghemor's done in the past, he doesn't deserve to die alone. Nobody does." He leaves. But Kira does listen and goes to him before he dies. Then she goes to talk with Bashir. He reports the cause of death for the record, and the witness as Kira Nerys. He tells Kira they're done. She says it seems so straitfoward, an autopsy, a statement from the witness, and a paperwork. She keeps talking about how it was when he died, about how each pause at the end of the breath, she'd think it was over, but he'd force another breath then another. She cries and says he probably didn't know she was there. Bashir says he knew, that she gave Ghemor what he needed. He didn't die alone. She tells Bashir she missed her father's death by an hour during the Occupation. She confesses how she took a chance to get away from her father and took it. She ran and Bashir says it's just like he tried to run from Ghemor. He says in the end, she faced it. She was there for Ghemor. She says she owed it to him, and her father, to get it right this time.

Of Love and Profit: After O'Brien has a talk with Rom, who had broken off wedding plans with Leeta, Bashir comments that he's a regular cupid as they watch from the upper deck as Rom and Leeta reconciled.

Soldiers of the Empire: Julian chastises Gen. Martok about his wound while he treats. He says that another three centimeters to the right and he would have severed an artery. He says if that had happened he would have bled to death in the holosuite. Martok argues that human fascination with what might have been is tiresome. Bashir snarikly asks him to forgive him for boring him but he's acting like a fool. Martok says his observation is noted, but two years in a dominion camp has dulled his reflexes. IT only proves he needs more training. Bashir reminds him that, at best, turning off the holosuite safety protocols is dubious, but with only one eye, it's positively idiotic. He says if he would consider--Martok cuts him off, showing that he does not want an artificial eye. Bashir says that in that case, he must accept that he has a disability and--Martok cuts him off again. He says there are limits to how far he'll indulge him. Martok gets a priority message from the Klingon High Council. He looks to Bashir and Bashir shrugs, saying they're done here. Martok has the message routed to his quarters and then turns to Bashir, saying "Thank you." Bashir tells him, "If you really want to thank me, don't walk in here dripping blood anymore. It takes days to get it out of the carpet!" Martok looks down at the carpet in confusion then looks back to Bashir and finds him smiling. He turns to go and smiles himself. Later, Worf athe necessary repairs and he told Bashir it was a holosuite accident. Later, Work asks Martok how his shoulder is. Martok tells him Bashir made the necessary repairs and that he told Bashir it was a holosuite accident. He says Bashir would not have understood the need to draw blood in a Klingon training exercise. Worf concurs, saying that few humans would. Later, Kira brings a PADD to Quarks, where O'Brien, Dax and Bashir are waiting. The PADD is a revised Duty Roster to cover Worf while he's gone. Bashir is surprised to find he's the new Intelligence Office. Kira tells him it needs to be someone with a Level 4 security clearance and that means him or Dax, but she needs Dax to be Fleet Liaison Officer. Bashir says he hopes Worf is enjoying himself while they're stuck there, taking over his duties. Dax asks if he's ever been on a Klingon ship. She says that if he finds the Defiant cramped, he should try spending a week on a Klingon Bird of Prey. They discuss the social and military hierarchy on Klingon ships and how crew can only kill their superiors under certain circumstances. Bashir asks for clarity on that. Dax replies. She ends saying Klingons are diverse and some are strong and some are weak. Two Klingons walk into the bar and Bashir says they fall into the strong category. Odo comes in after them. He asks if they see the one on the left with the necklace. Bashir says yes, and Odo replies that it's made of Cardassian neckbones. Later, Bashir goes to Ops, poring over an intelligence report on a PADD. O'Brien asks him how the intelligence business is. Bashir says he can't talk about it. All he can do is read these fascinating reports and analyses and analyses of analyses and keep it all to himself because no one else has a 'need to know.' So he has to walk around the station feeling like--He asks O'Brien if he really cares, and O'Brien says, "No." Martok's ship returns with survivors of a Klingon ship that was attacked by the Jem'Hadar. He says they will need medical care and Bashir leaves for the Infirmary.

Children of Time: As the Defiant passes through some interference to check out a planet, Kira gets a blast of energy feedback. Sisko calls Bashir to the Bridge, but she waves him off. In Sickbay, Bashir tells Kira the planet is apparently crawling with Bashir's. Kira asks about Odo. Bashir says he can't hold his shape because of the interference but he'll be fine. He tells her that she, on the other hand, will need to undergo a complete neural pathway induction when they get back to the station. She says she feels fine but he says that's because her neural tissue hasn't begone to deteriorate yet. He tells her to rest assured, she'll be on his operating table eventually. As he leaves, she asks where he's going and he says he has to get down there and meet some of those Bashirs. On the planet, Bashir finds Worf looking at a fountain and asks if he's thirsty. Worf tells him that the Captain asked him to make a survey of the infrastructure so they can leave appropriate supplies. Bashir says he was doing the same in the clinic and ran into his great great great great grand-daughter. A doctor. He says she made quite a fuss over him. Apparently his healing touch was quite a legend. Some Klingons come to speak to Worf and invite him to an honorary dinner. Bashir comments that apparently he's not the only legend around there. Later, Bashir asks O'Brien if he mentioned that she's a doctor. O'Brien says, "Twice." Bashir goes on, saying she showed him pictures of the family going all the way back to him. He asks if O'Brien knows who he ended up with after the crash. He answers himself: Angie Kirby. O'Brien asks, "Who's that?" Bashir says that's what he said. Apparently she transferred aboard only last week. But she's gorgeous. O'Brien congratulates him. He's thinking of asking her out when they get back, seeing as they got along well here. He ask O'Brien about his eventual wife, but O'Brien says he doesn't want to hear about it. He has a wife and child at home. Bashir says he didn't mean anything by it and offers to leave him to his work. Later, on Defiant, Kira wants to go along with the crash that creates the colony. She says it's cheating fate. Bashir reminds her she's going to die if they don't go back. O'Brien and Worf also state their cases, while Bashir and Dax listen and the Captain makes his decision to take his crew home. The crew participates in the annual planting. Bashir, with his sleeves folled up, accepts a plant from Molly (a different Molly O'Brien) and says "Thank you" before planting it. Later, he carries some spraying equipment and slips it off his shoulders. The crew makes the decision to go ahead with the crash. Bashir stands on the Bridge, behind the captain's left. But the ship veers off course at the last minute and goes free, erasing the colony from existence.

Blaze of Glory: Bashir treats an injury on Quark's head. Quark squeals before Bashir even touches him. Kira and Odo enter telling how they caught his asailant. Bashir says, "Morn. Of all people, who would have thought he'd just snap like that?" He continues treating Quark while Odo and Kira question him. He helps by prompting Quark with a "like what?" Bashir changes instruments and Quark jerks with an "Ow" again. Bashir ends up holding his head to treat him.

Empok Nor: On the trip to Empok Nor, Garak asks O'Brien why he and Bashir dress up and relive old battles in the holosuites. O'Brien says it's because it's fun. Once the few live crewmembers return to Deep Space Nine, Garak is sleeping in the Infirmary. Bashir reports to O'Brien that he should be alright in a few days. He's reduced the psychotropic drug affecting Garak's nervous system. O'Brien says he looks peaceful and it's hard to believe he's the same man who attacked them. Bashir says, in a way, he's not. The drug brought out the worst in him parts of him and they took over. He wasn't in control of his actions. O'Brien asks to talk to him, and Bashir says he can, for a minute. O'Brien tells Garak that Bashir says he has a couple of broken ribs.

In the Cards: A glum-looking Bashir pours more alcohol into Kira's glass at at all-around glum dinner ion the captain's quarters. He glares at Nog briefly as the latter, acting as waiter with Jake, begins to remove the bottle and then takes a dring from his own glass. O'Brien asks about the Tienanmen, Kira mentions that makes three in the last three weeks, and Bashir says they're going to run out of ships at this rate. Kira tells him it's not funny. Bashir says he wasn't trying to be. He says that until Starfleet Command starts to do somethign about the Domion threat, the situation is only going to get worse. Kira asks if he wants a war. Odo says there has been a 75 percent increase in the theft of medical supplies and food. He hasn't seen such an increase since just before the Cardassians were forced to leave the station. Bashir drains his glass and says that, on that note, he's going to turn in. After Nog gets outbid in an auction for a baseball card to cheer up the captain with Jake, the two go on a quest to get the card from the winning bidder. It becomes a bit of a scavenger hunt where they visit several of the senior staff getting the necessary items and have to get something for them in order to get what they need. When they visit Bashir, Bashir asks what they want with 5 liters of anorobic metabolite suspendind in hydrosaline solution. Nog tells him they can't say as it's a surprise. Bashir asks if they aren't going to drink it, but they don't really quite know. Jake tries a tactic Nog successfully used with O'Brien. He asks Bashir if he'd rather be doing something else right now. Bashir says, "No," which throws Jake off. Bashir says it's the first time he's had a chance to get any work done on his prion project in five months and he couldn't be dragged away. Nog takes over. He says that he, Bashir, doesn't seem happy. Bashir admits that he has been feeling down lately. Nog asks him to name one thing that would make him happy right now. He says he doesn't know, but Nog prompts him again and he says, "Kukalaka." Jake says, "Excuse me." Bashir says, "That's what I want. Leeta borrowed him. Said he was cute. But she never brought him back." Nog asks "Kuka-what?" Bashir turns and answers, very seriously, "Kukalaka. You bring him to me and you'll have earned yourselves 5 liters of anorobic metobolite suspended in hydrosaline solution." Jake says, "Done! Just one thing, Doctor: What's a kukalaka?" They rescue the teddy bear from a sleeping Leeta and sneak away. Later we see O'Brien on his way to kayak, Bashir smiling at his teddy bear being back where it belongs while Leeta looks around in frustration for him, people cheering Kira, etc., and Captain Sisko hugging jake after receiving the Willie Mays rookie card.

Call to Arms: At a staff meeting, Bashir asks when the Romulans signed the non-agression treaty with the Dominion. Later, after a meeting with Weyoun, Sisko brings the senior staff together and says they, the Dominion, are going to attack. Bashir asks if he's sure. As the meeting breaks up, Bashir asks if Sisko doesn't think Starfleet might be persuaded to send more ships, say fifty. Sisko tells him he's afraid not; they are on their own. Bashir says, in that case, he'll get the Infirmary ready. He leaves. Later, with invasion imminent, Jake passes out medkits in the Infirmary and then goes to Doctor Bashir to ask, "Now what?" Bashir says, "Now we wait...until the casualties start coming in." Then he asks Jake if he's sure alright. Jake says he is but he can't stay in Ops and he promised Federation News Service a first-hand account of the battle. Bashir says, "You'll get it. Just remember, 'Bashir' is spelled with an 'i.'" Sisko gives the order, after the cloakede and self-replicating minefield is activated, to evacuate the station. Bashir goes to the Defiant, though we don't see this happen on screen. The Defiant gets away. We then see Bashir is on the Bridge, just behind the captain's left. Dax reports they should rendevouz with the Federation task force in 48 hours. Bashir asks, "And then what?" Nog replies, "And then we make the Dominion sorry they ever set foot in the Alpha Quadrant." Sisko says, "Cadet, you took the words right out of my mouth."

Season 6

A Time to Stand: Bashir comes to Garak in Sickbay on Defiant. Garak complains that after all their lunches together, he would think he'd get some preferential treatment. Bashir's sleeves are pulled up and his uniform unzipped. He tells Garak he has 12 wounded crewman and officers out there all in worse shape than him. Garak says that if he's trying to cheer him up, it's working. He feels better already. Bashir asks what happened. Garak tells him he was studying star charts for Captain Sisko during the last assault when he had a violent encounter with a bulkhead. Bashir tells him bluntly that he'll live. Garak says he wishes he shared Bashir's confidence. His head may heal, but he's sure that, the way the war is going, he wouldn't bet on any of them living to a ripe old age. Bashir says he admits the odds are not good but they could be worse. Garak says he must have used his genetically enhanced brain to calculate their chances for survival. Bashir admits it wasn't really that compliciated and starts to tell him. But Garak says that ever since it's been public knowledge that he's been enhanced, he's been showing off. Bashir examines him as they talk. He says he has no reason to hide anymore and might as well use what he has. Garak asks what their chances are, over 50 percent? Bashir says, "32.7." Garak asks if he's sure about that figure and Bashir replies by asking if he wants him to go through his entire set of calculations. Garak says, "Not really." But then he says, "Genetically engineered indeed." Bashir says, "Excuse me?" Garak says he acts as if he doesn't have a care in the world. He says it's that smug, superior attitude that makes people like him so unpopular. Bashir asks if he's trying to insult him. Garak repeats the 32.7 percent chance of surviving and says that's insulting. Bashir tells him not to take it personally; it's strictly a matter mathematics. Garak says, no, it's strictly a matter of their lives. He says Bashir's not genetically enhanced, he's a Vulcan. Bashir says, smiling, "If I'm a Vulcan, how do you explain my boyish smile." Garak says, "Not so boyish anymore." Later, in the Mess, Martok says he's going to take care of his wound. He says Klingons make great warriors but terrible doctors. Bashir enters and Martok says that he's just the man he wants to see. Bashir tells Captain Sisko that they've been ordered back to Starbase 375 for reassignment. Bashir stays and Sisko asks if there's something else. Bashir says they got news of the 7th Fleet. Only 14 ships returned. Martok asks, "14 ships out of 112?" Bashir, angry, says, "We can't keep taking lossing like this if they expect to win this!" Sisko dismisses him. Bashir calmly tells Martok he'll take a look at his arm now. Bashir is in on the briefing when Defiant's crew gets its next assignment: the main Ketracel White storage facility deep in Cardassian space. Bashir says that without the White, the Jem'Hadar won't be able to function. Admiral Ross says that without they White, they will die. Dax says she won't shed any tears, not if it helps end the war. Bashir asks how they intend them to infiltrate Cardassian territory without the Defiant and its cloaking device. Sisko says he is wondering the same thing. Ross shows them something better: the Jem'Hadar attack ship they captured last year. Bashir asks Sisko if he even knows how to fly that thing. Sisko says not yet, but he intends to learn. On the Jem'Hadar ship, Bashir comes to the Bridge. Nog complains about the lack of chairs. O'Brien counters he should worry about his stomach as there are no replicators on board. Dax ups that saying there are no viewscreens. "Who builds a ship without a window." Bashir says, "The same people who build a ship without an Infirmary." He hands Dax a Padd with a list of all medical supplies on board, in his quarters for want of a better space. Dax teases that they'll try not to have any medical emergencies while he's sleeping. He tells her he's glad she find the lack of proper medical facilities amusing, but if trouble breaks out, she won't want a viewscreen, or a chair, or a sandwich she'll be wanting, but a a biobed with a surgical tissue regenerator. Dax says, "Maybe, but right now, I'd settle for a viewscreen." Nog adds, "Or a chair." And O'Brien add, "Or a sandwich." Sisko comes on board with Gark and Bashir asks if Garak has come to see them off. Sisko says he invited Garak, seeing as they'll be going into Cardassian territory. Later, Bashir gives Sisko a hypospray. He says he wishes he had more time to study the side effects of the headset, which serves as a viewscreen. Sisko says they know one side effect: headaches. Bashir says the headsets were designed to be worn by the Vorta and the Jem'Hadar. Garak volunteers to wear one as they saw Dukat wearing one. Bashir agrees it is better for Sisko the less he has to wear one. They are fired on by a Federation ship, the Centaur. Garak says they should perhaps open fire since they can't call the other ship. Bashir says they can't, it's a Federation ship. Sisko prepares to return fire. The Centaur gives up after a few shots. Dax sees three other Jem'Hadar ships that are going in pursuit of the Centaur. Bashir asks if Sisko thinks Captain Reynolds will outrun them. The Jem'Hadar ship makes it to the asteroid storage facility. They pay attention to the ship before them and the procedure it uses. Bashir stands by on the Bridge. Sisko says to set the detonator for 3 minutes, and Bashir says that if it takes 92.3 seconds to make the exchange, that doesn't leave much time. Sisko it says it doesn't give the Jem'Hadar much time to detect the bomb either. Nog says he hopes the people in charge down there aren't on a lunch break. Bashir reminds him that Jem'Hadar don't eat. The facility though, doesn't shut down the security net to let the ship out. Bashir says that if they don't shut it down before the bomb goes off, they won't have a chance. Nog asks if they think they found the bomb. O'Brien thinks not that fast, but Bashir asks why they aren't letting them go otherwise. Sisko comes up with a plan to time it just right to get out as the net comes down because of the bomb blast. Dax gets to work on the calculations but Bashir says they have to go to full impulse 1.3 seconds before the bomb blast. Dax says the computer agrees with Bashir. Garak says, "Of course, it does. They think alike." The bomb, however, goes off early and the blast damages the ship. They are left with lots of damages, including no warp drive. Garak asks how long it will take to reach the closest Federation starbase. Sisko says a long time. Garak asks Bashir how long. Bashir says 17 years, 2 months, and 3 days, give or take an hour. Everyone looks glum...and stunned.

Rocks and Shoals: Dax is injured in an attack to the already damaged ship and Sisko calls for Dr. Bashir to come to the Bridge for the medical emergency. Bashir, sleeves up, tells Dax she'll be alright. But he scans her and tells Sisko she's got a punctured thoradic abdominal cavity and the symbiont might have been injured. The ship crash lands into water. Bashir helps SIsko and others heave a raft with Jadzia Dax and some supplies to shore. Sisko asks how she is and Bashir replies that she's stable for now. He calls for Garak to help. In a cave, Bashir keeps a watch on Dax. He tells Sisko the prognosis is guarded but good. He's stopped the bleeding and repaired all the internal injuries though the damage to the symbiont is harder to diagnose but given enough rest, he thinks they'll both make a full recovery. She says she's left staring at the ceiling for the rest of her stay and Bashir smiles. When Garak and Nog are captured by Jem'Hadar, the Vorta asks if there is a doctor in Garak's unit. Garak says "Yes," and Nog quietly but sharply calls him on it. The Vorta says the Cardassian just saved his life. Bashir stays by Dax as O'Brien and Sisko discuss their options. After running into a Jem'Hadar patrol, Sisko makes plans for a defense, including Bashir with him on a ridge. An unarmed Jem'Hadar comes to the camp to deliver a message to Sisko. He says the Vorta wishes to trade Nog and Garak for the doctor and the Captain. Sisko argues that it sounds as if he wants to trade two lower ranking officers for more valuable ones. Sisko asks him if he would do the same and the Jem'Hadar says now. Sisko talks with him about the Vorta and eventually, the Jem'Hadar says the Vorta instructed him to tell them that he and his doctor would not be harmed and would be free to go after their meeting. Sisko wants the Jem'Hadar's assurance that order would be carried out. They agree the trade will be in one hour. Sisko and Bashir walk alone to the camp and at a certain point Garak and Nog are sent foward. As they pass each otehr, Garak offers a "Good afternoon." Sisko asks if they're alright. Garak says "Perfect. How are you?" Bashir offers a "Felt better" before they're out of earshot as each group keeps watching. Sisko leads the way in the cavern but Bashir goes to the Vorta and examins him. Kevan, the Vorta, tells Sisko they have a lot to talk about. Bashir says, "Not for awhile you don't." He says he needs immediate surgery. Sisko asks, "Now?" and Bashir says he doesn't think he has a choice. The Jem'Hadar step foward around him. Bashir says, "I'm a doctor. I won't harm him." Kevan says, "They aren't here to protect me. They've just never seen what the inside of a Vorta looks like." Bashir goes back to tending the Vorta. After the operation, Bashir puts his instruments away and the Jem'Hadar move back. The Vorta says, "I am alive." Bashir says, "No self-diagnosis, please! I'm the doctor here!" He goes on to scan him and list what he sees, then agrees that he is, indeed, alive. The Vorta moves and gasps. Bashir tells him to be careful, that his insides are being held together by cellular microsutures and a lot of hope. The Vorta has the Jem'Hadar leave. He asks for a case and Bashir hands it to him. He shows them there is only one vial of White left. He is going to offer them the plan of attack he's going to send the Jem'Hadar in the morning. Bashir says, "They're your own men." The Vorta says, "Yes." He offers them a broken comm system after they've killed the Jem'Hadar, and then he'll surrender to them. Bashir says, "And you'll spend the war resting comfortabley as a Starfeet POW, while your men lie rotting on thsi planet." The Vorta says, "I see we understand each other." Once back at their own cave, Bashir stays by Dax as they discuss how they're going to react to this Jem'Hadar attack. Finally, Sisko says it's not a vote. He orders them to head out. Bashir goes out, too. Sisko offers the Jem'Hadar that if they surrender, his doctor can sedate them and keep them in stasis until they can get them to where they can get White.

Sons and Daughters: The crew of the Jem'Hadar ship travels back to Federation space on General Martok's Rotaran. As they arrive at a starbase, Bashir and O'Brien sigh. O'Brien is tried of the Klingon food. Bashir says it's not the food. If he ever hears a balad about the honored dead he'll go stark raving mad. Sisko is ordered to bring his senior staff for debriefing with the Admiral.

Behind the Lines: Bashir sits with Sisko and Dax in the Mess. Nog serves them Saurian brandy. Sisko asks him where he got it. Bashir add, "In the middle of a war, no less." Everyone gets quiet as they go through the ritual of a used up phaser power cell. Later, after a daring mission, he's at the celebration in the Mess again. He asks Dax to tell Ensign Kirby how he took over the con while the other crewman was injured. Dax tells him that she hardly believes it herself. He nods "Sir. Sir." to Sisko and Ross and walks away. Dax asks to be excused by Sisko and Ross because Julian needs her. Everyone again quiets for the ritual of a used up phaser power cell. Bashir participates and claps with the others.

Favor the Bold: Bashir comes to the Bridge to tend an injured crewman and the ship is attackede by two Jem'Hadar ships. He takes a seat as the ship is hit. But the the ruse is dropped and the ship attacks another. The Defiant is ordered to fall back again. O'Brien complains of the tune: engage, retreat, engage, retreat. Bashir said they'd better learn a new one or they'll all be singing "Hail the Conquering Dominion." Captain Dax tells him not to start learning those lyrics just yet. Later, at the Starbase, Garak is convinced he has had something installed in his head by Starfleet Intelligence, but Bashir can't find anything. Dax tells him they aren't going to believe Starfleet Intelligence would do such a thing. Garak says when he was in the Obsidian order, he did a lot worse. Bashir says he's sure he did and goes to the replicator. Dax asks him to get her a raktojino and he orders it and brings it back to the table. Garak finally says he'd rather be on the Defiant with all of them. Bashir asks if Dax believes Starfleet will approve Sisko's plan to take back Deep Space Nine. O'Brien offers a toast to taking back the castle. Bashir adds, "And planting our flag on its battlements once again." Dax teases them about them about being in the holosuites too much. Later, Bashir is on the Bridge of Defiant as Sisko comes back. He stands when Nog says, "Captain on the Bridge! Later, Bashir stands and defends Garak's pessimism about the 11th ship dropping back. He says it's just Garak's nature. O'Brien picks up a fleet of 1254 Dominion ships standing between them and DS9. Bashir states that they are outnumbered 2 to 1. Garak says, "Now who's being negative?"

Sacrifice of Angels: As the battle is about to begin, Bashir is on the Bridge. O'Brien recites a poem and Bashir finishes it for him. "Cannon to the right of them," O'Brien says, "Cannon to the left of them. Cannon in front of them, volleyed and thundered." "Stormed at with shot and shell," Bashir finishes Boldly they rode and well into the jaws of death. Into the mouth of hell, rode the six hundred." Nog asks them to stop. O'Brien tells him to just concentrate on his job and not worry the ships. Bashir tells him to listen to O'Brien, as he's a professional. Later, Bashir notes that the Cardassian opening in the lines is a trap, but Sisko comments that it's also an opportunity and they're going to take it. Bashir calls out the that aft shields are down and auxilliary shields are down to 40 % as they try to make their way through the lines. No other ships make it past the lines and Bashir looks glum. Later, in the Wormhole, Bashir looks in horror at the many, many Dominion ships on the forward viewscreen. And then in horrible fascination when they all disappear. Later, he reports a communication from the Cortez that the Dominion fleet is in retreat. Sisko orders him to tell the Cortez and all others to meet at Deep Space Nine. There's clapping and welcome when the crew, including Bashir, enter the Premenade again. O'Brien asks Bashir if he heard Quark say the holosuites were ready and waiting. Bashir replies, "The Battle of Britain. I'll meet you there in an hour!" as he passes. Sisko goes to see the babbling Gul Dukat. He says maybe Dr. Bashir can do something for him.

You Are Cordially Invited: A week after the retake of the station, Worf and Jadzia have decided to get married in a week. In a gathering of men, Bashir comments that there's nothing more romantic than a wedding on DS9 in springtime. O'Brien adds, "When the neutrinos are in bloom." Sisko and Martok are also there. Worf explains the ritual the groom goes through with his male friends. Worf says it's similar to a bachelor party and Bashir says it sounds good to him. O'Brien agrees and Sisko says to count him in. As they leave, Bashir says, "4 days of Klingon bachelor party. Just think of the possibilities!" Bashir, O'Brien Sisko, and Alexander arrive at a fire in Klingon garb and are having second thoughts. They are given staffs with pads on the end. Worf explains they will beat Worf and Dax with them after they are married. They have to keep them with them until the wedding. The food in the room is there to temp them while they fast, deprivation being the first of six trials they must undergo. Bashir comments that it is 4 days away to the wedding when they can eat. Martok says it's a short time but they must make the best of it. The other five are Blood, Pain, Sacrifice, Anguish, and Death. Bashir says, "Sounds like a marriage, alright." under his breath. O'Brien asks him how he would know. A bit later, Bashir slaps Alexander's face a bit and says his name. Alexader wakes up and says, "Grandma?" Bashir tells hiim to guess again. He says they are still on the road to Kalhaya, day 500. Bashir tells him not to push himself too hard and then tells the Kingongs that it might not be a bad ideda to turn down the heat. Martok mentions that it might be too much for the non-humans and no one would think less of them for quitting. Bashir asks who said anything about quitting. Sisko agrees. As the day appraoches they go back to the holosuites for the trial of Blood. Workf asks who will be first. Everyone standing beside Bashir, who is snoozing on his feet, step back. Worf tells him the didn't expect him to volunteer. Bashir says, "Neither did I," and Worf assures him the pain will be brief. Later, they are shackled to a rope above a fire. Bashir tells O'Brien it's worked, he's had a vision of the future and he can see it so clearly. HE's going to kill Worf. They start chanting it. As Bashri and O'Brien arrive back at Quark's for the next day, they find the wedding cancelled. Bashir says there's only one thing for it. O'Brien says, "Dinner!" Quark says he'll get the menu. Quark sets a steak with mushrooms, baked potatoes with sour cream and chives, and linguini Bajoran shrimp with extra cheese in front of Bashir and another meal in front of O'Brien. Bashir asks where the kava juice is and they say they'll wait. Just before they dig in, Sisko stops them and says the wedding is back on. But Wroif says it isn't and Sisko goes to talk to Jadzia and tells Worf to keep them away from the food. In the end, the ceremony goes on. Bashir stands between Martok and O'Brien. He steps back with the others so Jadzia can enter and he smiles with her. Once they are declared, he leans toward Martok and asks, "Now?" Martok tells him, "Not yet." He asks again a bit later, "Now?" Martok says, "Patience." And then, finally, he says, "Now, Doctor." We see O'Brien and Bashir rushing foward with their staffs. I'm sure Sisko, Martok and Alexander are going up with them, but we don't really see that.

Resurrection: Bashir comes to Ops to deliver his medical requisitions. Dax and Worf see right through him--though he argues that he wasn't wanting to check in Kira. When Kira does arrive, Dax asks how last night was and Bashir tells her she meant after dinner (with the alternate Bariel) and she doesn't have to say as they don't want to invade her privacy. Then he awkwardly says he should be getting back to the Infirmary--unless there are any other details forthcoming. Kira just says, "Goodbye, Doctor."

Statistical Probabilities: Four genetically-engineered patients from the Institute are brought to work with Dr. Bashir, since he was also genetically-enhanced. Jack makes fun of Bashir before he even arrives, about how he's not like them, how he's passed himself off as a normal person, a Starfleet officer. He breaks a PADD Lauren was using to see and lust after Bashir and then cuts the other doctor's hand. She opens the door to find Bashir. She warns Bashir not to turn his back on Jack. She hopes he has better luck getting through to them than she has had. Bashir goes in and finds all the lights off and someone laughing. Jack is irratic and paranoid. Bashir calls for the lights after saying hello to Serena. Lauren flirts. Jack tests him but he passes and Lauren declares he's a mutant like them, but Jack still doesn't think so. Lauren asks what enhancements he had done. He tells her and then Jack argues with him for keeping his secret and about the Eugenics wars. Bashir leaves to go eat with some friends. At dinner, he says, he keeps thinking "There but for the grace of God" and explains that his parents got a good doctor and these four had bad side-effects. Kira thinks it's not a stimulating environment for them at the Institute. Odo asks why Dr. Lowe's brought them there to DS9. Bashir says she hoped that meeting Ba shir would help them see a normally-functioning enhanced person. They end up in a heated discussion about why genetic resequencing is illegal and whether or not enahnced people should be barred from certain things, like being in Starfleet. The dinner is interupted by Jack calling on the comm the "mutants" didn't have access to. Bashir leaves saying he'd love to stay and chat about their impending doom, but.... He goes to see the "mutants" and they are all complaining about a noise. He finally hears it and Jack is happy to be validated. He jumps over Lauren and hugs Bashir then grabs Serena and threatens to snap her neck if Bashir doesn't do anything about it. Bashir calles Cheif O'Brien and then tries to talk Jack down, eventually threatening to tell O'Brien that he'll tell the noise went away on it's own. Finally, Jack lets Serena go. O'Brien arrives and Bashir tells him what it might be. O'Brien checks a tricorder and finds him right. While O'Brien fixes it, Bashir pulls up Damar's speech as the new leader of Cardassia. The four mutants analyze him and realize he's killed someone, someone close. And that he's pretending, being a puppet, saying what someone wants him to say. Bashir asks him if they know who Damar is and they guess everything right about him: killing a princess, Ziayal, deposing the king, Gul Dukat, and being controlled bya Dark Knight, Weyoun. Bashir, in Ops, explains how they went through eveything they could on Damar and guessed how he came to power. Sisko says that the Dominion is comintop DS9 to negotiate a peace offering and that the negotiations will be recorded. Bashir tells the mutants who get very excited, except Serena who doesn't show any emotion. Bashir pulls up the recording in the holosuite so that the mutants can interact and back up the recording. Jack plays some of it back in the original Dominionese, which he learned this morning. Patrick realizes they want the Cabrell system, and Lauren suggests why they might want it, but lists what the planets have and none of it seems strategically useful. Serena writes something on a PADD and Bashir looks at it. He shows the others, and then he shows Sisko in Ops. It's a formula for turning the fungus on the 1st planet of the Cabrell system into Ketracel White, so that the Dominion can manufacture it in the Alpha Quadrant. He shows how they could supply the Jem'Hadar indefinitely. He shows how they recommend giving them Cabrell, so they can prevent the Dominion from attacking now and shows Sisko the casualty projetions. He goes on with other projections. Sisko asks how they came up with all of this and Bashir says they are "mutants". Sisko allows Bashir to show him how they came by these projections. Bashir goes back to the mutants to celebrate the fact that BASisko is going to show their projections to Starfleet. They put on a Waltz and Bashir dances with Lauren. Jack tries to dance with Serena but she walks away. He cuts in with Lauren and Bashir lets him. O'Brien comes in to replace a power coupling. The mutants analyze O'Brien quite accurately and Bashir teases him. They leave to go to Quark's as O'Brien is missing his friend. O'Brien and Bashir play darts in Quark's and O'Brien ends up getting a bit upset to find that the mutants like him because he's simple. Bashir admits getting to like them and to being on the same wavelength. They end up playfully bantering about the enhancements and Bashir being superior and how hard it is to be among the common people. But O'Brien surprises him by winning. Bashir asks why he has to stand so far back. He likes to win like the next man. Bashir returns to the mutants who have come up with new projectioea that there's no way to beat the Dominion and they have to surrender. Bashir doesn't like it but agrees with their projections and he take them to Sisko. He tells Sisko there will be over 900 billion casualties and it's best to save the lives and throw off the Dominion in a couple generations than to lose so many now. Sisko does not accept it and says it' sbased on statistical probabilities and assumptions. He says he's happy to hear the group's advice on how to win but not on how to lose. He will not accept surrender. Bashir becomes hopeless. He tells O'Brien in Quark's but he doesn't go along with it either. Bashir can't understand why others can't see it, but O'Brien takes umbrage that Bashir seems to think they others aren't smart enough to see things the way the mutants do. Bashir gets drunk and plays Dabo. He's winning but glum. Quark tells him he shouldn't bring all the others down and he suggests Bashir take his winnings and leave. Bashir says he's trying to make a point. He finally loses and says, "There!" Quark says it's just a game, but Bashir says, "Yes, it's not like there's 900 billion lives at stake," and leaves. Bashir tells the mutants that Starfleet rejected their projections. Jack wants to give the Domionion Starfleet battle plans and Bashir says it's one thing to give their case to Starfleet, not to cause an invasion and commit treason. He won't be a party to it. Jack says they're going through with it and asks if Bashir is with them. He says, "No!" and Jack hits him. He falls on Lauren's couch and she aks how they contact the Dominion. Bashir wakes up tied to a chair with all the mutants gone except Serena. The computer won't respond to him. He finally gets Serena to listen to him. He tells her they have to stop them before it's too late. He asks her to untie him. He says she doesn't want the deaths of so many people on their hands. He realizes she's worried about Jack. He says he'll be arrested and charged with treason and she'll never see Jack again. The other three go to the where Weyoun is waiting but find Bashir and two Security guards there. The mutants tell him not to interfere. Bashir tells them they can do this the easy way or the hard way. Bashir tells them Sisko decided not to press charges and they';ll be going back to the Institute. Jack asks if he knows what he's done. Bashir says he's kept them from committing treason. Lauren asks if they should thank him with 900 billion people going to die. Jack realizes Serena did it. Bashir points out that they they didn't factor her in. One person changed their plans and changed the course of history. That made him think that maybe, just maybe, things won't turn our as he thought. He leaves. Bashir sits glum in Quark's later, and O'Brien joins him. He says it was a close call. Bashir says yes, luckily he managed to intercept them in time. But O'Brien says it wasn't what he meant, but when he had to decide to go to the Dominion or not. He knows Bashir wanted to save as many lives as possible. He says it's his fault. He shoudln't have taken things so far. O'Brien says he knows the stakes are against them but all they can do is give it their best shot. Bashir plays Dabo again and this time tries to have fun and take a chance even when the stakes are against him. O'Brien calls and tells them a transport is leaving and some passengers are refusing to leave without seeing him again. Lauuren grabs him and kisses him. Patrick asks if the'll come visit. Bashir tells Serena that she did the right thing. Bashir asks them all if they're ready to go. Jack finally comes out and asks if they come up with a way to beat the Dominion, will he listen? Bashir says he will. They beam out and Bashir blows out a sigh. (Sorry if this is rushed, but the show was, itself, very fast. I did the best I could to keep up.)

The Magnificent Ferengi: Dax, O'Brien and Bashir return and tell a story about a mission behind enemy lines, interrupting Quark's story of economic conquest.

Waltz: Bashir and other senior staff are at Ops when Kira reports the destruction of the ship Sisko was on with Gul Dukat. She says the Defiant has another appointment: escorting a defenseless troop convoy. Bashir asks if they can delay the convoy to try and find Sisko who may have survived. Kira tells them how much time they have to search for survivors before they must meet up with the convoy. When Worf orders the Defiant to be ready, Bashir leaves with Dax and O'Brien and Worf meets them in the turbolift. Bashir is in the trasnporter room as two woman survivors are beamed up. He scans them while O'Brien reports he's checking them out to the Bridge. Bashir is back on the Bridge as Kira calls. Her signal is very messy and Bashir says he couldn't understand a word of it. O'Brien backs him up, but Dax sasy she understood the meaning and it's Worf's decision. Worf says he knows what the orders are and it would be dishonorable to pretend they don't. Bashir says he doesn't consider Worf's honor to be work Captain Sisko's life. Worf tells him he can leave the Bridge. Bashir leaves. Sisko is eventually rescued and treated in Sickbay and, though we don't see Bashir again, we know it must have him who did the treating.

Who Mourns for Morn: Bashir and O'Brien walk into Quark's and Bashir greets Morn, who is actually a hologram at the time. Dax and Sisko enter and give the news that Morn's cargo ship was caught in an ion storm and Bashir asks if he's alright, but Dax says he's dead. Later, Bashir asks O'Brien if he's brought something to the Memorial Service. Bashir looks to be carrying a bottle of some liquer. He explains that it's customary to bring gifts of food and drink for the deceased to sustain them in the afterlife. They approach Quark and Bashir says it is very kind of him to host the memorial service. He puts on a hand on Quark's shoulder for comfort. Later, Bashir goes to Quark's and finds O'Brien keeping Morn's chair warm while working on an optronic relay. Bashir asks where Quark is as he's in the mood for one of his famous Telamine Frosts. O'Brien tells him he's in the back and not coming out. Bashir says he's taking Morn's death pretty hard. O'Brien gets up to go test his relay and Bashir says he'll take over (keeping the chair warm).

Far Beyond the Stars: Dr. Bashir examines Sisko after he passes out (after getting hit by a car in his odd vision). Bashir reports that Sisko is waking up. He also says there's some unusual synaptic activity. He says the neural patterns are similar to those from last year when Sisko had visions about Bajor. Kassidy asks if he'll have to have surgery. Bashir says he's not sure so Sisko will have to stay overnight for observation. Sisko asks if that's really necessary. Bashir hands him a PADD with the scans and says, "Take a look at these," but Sisko sees something different, and now he's Benny, in the 1950's. Sisko sees familiar people, including one, Jules, who looks a lot like Dr. Bashir. He complains about the instant tea, the woman in the office (who looks like Kira) made. She says H.G. Wells would like it, but he says no self-respecting Englishman would. He looks over K.C Hunter as she looks at the new Galaxy Benny brought in. The artist comes in and holds up a picture and Kira asks Jules if they can do something with that. He thinks they can. He sends a few quips Herb's way (who looks like Quark without the ears). The next day they pass around stories each other wrote. They read Benny's story about the space station. Jules calls it "very admirable." KC likes the major, in the story, a very strong woman. She says they need more science fiction and asks Jules if she isn't always saying that. Jules speaks around his cigar and says "Ad nauseum, dear." But Beeny starts having similar hallucinations about being Captain Sisko. Three weeks later, Jules suggests he publish his own stories. Then they argue about making Benny's first story a "dream." Jules thinks it would make it more poignant. Every stops talking when Benny arrives back in the office after getting beat up by the police. But everyone's spirits are dashed when the month's magazine is "pulped". They get angry when Benny is fired. But Jules tries to tell him to stay calm. But then they all get concerned when Benny seems to go insane, saying that Captain Sisko exists and his story is "real." Jules and the others look on as Benny is taken in an ambulance to an assylum. Back on the station, Bashir scans Sisko with a tricorder while Kassidy talks him in to waking up. He tells Sisko he was out only for a few minutes. He reports his neural patterns have returned to normal but he doesn't understand how it happened.

One Little Ship: Three officers in a runabout are shrunken to observe a subspace anomaly to keep them safe. Dax, O'Brien and Bashir are the officers. O'Brien comments that he doesn't feel any smaller. Bashir tells him that he's only a meter tall and shrinking fast. "In a few minutes you're gonna be half the size of a combadge." O'Brien is not comforted. Bashir reports that gamma rays are increasing and they should close the blast shutters. He sits down and Dax closes the shutters. O'Brien asks if they're sure they'll return to their normal size when they return. He says he's not in love with the idea of behind small. Dax and Bashir laugh. O'Brien tells Bashir he shouldn't as he's as just as mall. Bashir tells him he's sitting closer to the focal point so actually O'Brien is smaller. Bashir gets up when the tractgor beam begins to fluctuate. On Defiant Sisko orders the runabout brought back, but Ensign Nog loses the tractor beam. The runabout speeds toward the anomaly and Bashir is thrown to the fire. After they get out of damage, Bashir gets up and says he's fine, but Dax isn't. He goes to work on her injuries. A little late, Bashir reports that he's lost the Defiant's transponder. O'Brien tells him to try the blast shutters and Bashir opens them. They see a strange sight and don't know what to make of it. Bashir cranes his neck and makes out a symbol. He turns so he can look up at the large black circle he sees, then he says, "Chief, you're not going to like this." They are looking at the Defiant, much much larger than they are. O'Brien is upset because they said they'd return to their normal size when they left the anamaly. Bashir said they should've and Dax explains that they didn't leave by the same path. The process failed to reverse itself. O'Brien asks if he's going to be "this" tall for the rest of his life, indicating a few inches with his fingers. Bashir tells him that actually, it's "this" tall, and he indicates only a few centimeters. Bashir tells him not to worry, they only have to re-enter the anamaly and follow their original trajectory back out. He agrees that's only a theory but Dax points out they need Defiant's help anyway, theory or not. O'Brien realizes that the Rubicon is small too and they can get in the Defiant's aft plasma vent. Dax likes the idea so they go. Bashir monitors the process as they fly into the plasma vent. He says the conduit is filthy but Dax tells him not to badger the Chief. He apologizes, saying it was very "small" of him. They begin to worry as the Defiant engages impulse engines, which will fill the conduit with superheated plasma, which O'Brien explains with vaporize them. O'Brien guides Dax and Bashir says he hopes he knows where he's going. They have to punch through the hatch just as the plasma comes through and they are in the Engine Room near the warp core. Bashir comments it's quite a mess and wonders what happened. They fly up and see a Jem'Hadar face and have to fly away quickly before he notices. They park on the ceiling and Bashir and O'Brien work on the sensors so they can see more. They also get the comm system back online. Bashir wonders why the captain is going along with the staff being forced to help the Jem'Hadar. Bashir asks for explanation. O'Brien explains that Kira is the only one working on the warp drive. Sisko is trying to retake the ship from the Engine Room. Bashir wonders if they can help. O'Brien says they can from the Bridge but Dax says they have to get out of the Engine Room first. Dax slips out a door before it closes. Bashir congratulates her on good piloting. They have to wait again for someone to open a door, but Dax has another idea. Dax has to pilot the runabout to push a button. She says not worry, she has a light touch, and Bashir quips, "Not according to Worf." They then have to come up with a plan, and O'Brien realizes they'll have to leave the runabout to reture the encryption subprocessors manually. Bashir tells him he won't be able to go out there because he can't breathe the oxygen molecules out there. Dax realizes she can beam a bubble of compressed air into the console housing and they can breathe for 20 minutes before passing out. Bashir and O'Brien are beamed into the housing and O'Brien realizes it might take longer than he thought. He tries to figure out where they are in the console. Bashir is no help but he thinks it's amazing. He's about to sit down, when O'Brien warns him not to, as he'd be fried by the small amount of current going through what he was about to sit on. O'Brien tells him to walk bhind him and not touch anything. Bashir, now sufficiently wary, says he won't. Dax calls to ask their progress and Bashir says they're aboput to find it and asks O'Brien if that's true. The two are beginning to breathe heavily. Bashir asks him if they are lost. O'Brien finally admits it. Bashir says disorientation is one of the effects of hypoxia and they need to focus on a landmark. He points to a large isolinear chip but O'Brien tells him there are dozens. Bashir points to another thing, at the base. O'Brien gets frustrated because everything looks the same to him. Bashir encourages him to close his eyes and use his memory and O'Brien finally gets it. They set off with more confidence. They slowly work connecting and disconnecting wires that are very large to them. They are losing strength and finally finish, calling Dax to beam them out. Bashir coughs as he falls into a chair, but they don't see the crew taking over the ship, and he wonders if Sisko hasn't noticed yet. Bashir tells Dax, who has flown back to the Engine Room and started shooting Jem'Hadar that he has a torpedo lock. They take down another. When all the Jem'Hadar are down, they fly down to the senior staff. After all is secure, the runabout crew is returned to normal size. Back in Quark's, Bashir and O'Brien tell the story to Morn and a Dabo girl. Odo behind them catches Bashir's attention who asks if something is wrong. Odo asks if they're sure they've returned to their normal size, as they do look a little shorter than before. Bashir and O'Brien look at each other and Bashir says, "Infirmary," and they rush off.

Honor Among Thieves: Bashir comes to Ops to put in a report of a malfunction in the Infirmary, but he's only the third to come right then and Kira anticipates it. Later, he goes to Sisko but the captain can't discuss O'Brien's whereabouts. Sisko tells him he'd expect Kira or Worf but not him to come in there demanding answers, but he says it's not the doctor's style. He guesses Bashir is just really worried about his friend. He says it if it helps, the Chief can take care of himself as well as anyone he knows. Bashir agrees (but it still worried) and leaves. Later, when O'Brien is home, Bashir tells O'Brien he took a lot of risk in letting Bibly know who he really was. He also says Agent Chadwick decided not to press charges, but O'Brien says he's not getting the point. He blames himself for Bilby's death because Bilby trusted him. Bashir says it's not his fault. He did his duty. He says he doesn't have all the answers, but he knows for sure that he's glad O'Brien is back. Chester, the cat, watches Bashir leave and then goes to O'Brien for pet and snuggle.

Change of Heart: Bashir enters O'Brien's quarters and says the latter is not dressed. He says they've got a holosuite for the next three hours and tells him the situation facing Agent Bashir though he interrupts himself to ask if what O'Brien has is a Tongo wheel. He then asks if O'Brien plays Tongo. O'Brien admits he wants to beat Quark, who's been on a winning streak. Bashir wishes him luck and admits he doesn't even know the rules. O'Brien offers to show him, and Bashir, tux and all, decides to play Tongo instead of Agent Bashir. Bashir proceeds to win and uses maneuvers O'Brien has to look up in the rules. He tells O'Brien Tongo just isn't his game, and at this rate, it will take 20 years to beat Quark. He asks why he needs to beat Quark? O'Brien says it's the challenge, and gives other examples, like playing darts with a guy with genetically-enhanced hand-eye coordination. O'Brien gets the idea that Bashir can beat Quark. Bashir says he's only just learned, but O'Brien thinks his genetically-enhanced brain can do it. Bashir is not interested, even for the "challenge" or for latinum. But when O'Brien says to do it for the look on Quark's face when he's beaten at Tongo by a lowly "humon." Bashir says, "Deal the cards." Later, they try to get in the game, but Quark says it's Ferengi only. Bashir plays confident, asking if they can keep up with him. Quark says his genetic-enhancements don't scare him. He reminds them that they don't play for drinks and O'Brien says they came to play, holding up a briefcase. When he's allowed in, Bashir takes 4 of the six slips to enter the game, and O'Brien tells him he better get off to a fast start. He outlasts all the Ferengi except Quark, who keeps talking about Jadzia, which finally gets past Bashir's concentration, as he falls for Quark's metaphor about wondering if there'll ever be another strip of latinum. Quark keeps it up, saying that now she's married and out of reach because they let her go. Bashir says some things just weren't meant to be. He evades, and Quark asks if he really wants to do that, but Quark tells him no coaching during the game. Bashir gets even more glum and even misses when Quark first says, "Confront." He lays out a "Total Consortium," but Quark has a "Full Monopoly." Bashir asks if Quark meant what he said about Dax being his one chance at true happiness. O'Brien explains that Quark was trying to distract him. He says it's not Julian's fault. Genetically-enhanced or not, he's still "humon." When Worf and Dax return, Worf tells Sisko that Dr. Bashir, who is in surgery with Dax, says he's confident she'll make a full recovery.

Wrongs Darker Than Death or Night: Bashir tries to understand why The Alamo would make a good holosuite program when they would lose to horrifying odds. He and O'Brien discuss it until Kira, in a bad mood, interrupts and basically tells them both, in no uncertain words, to get back to work. Later, Odo tells her that he spoke with Dr. Bashir who said she was irritable.
